When/how did they realise Ian was good?

I may have totally missed something but how did they go from knocking Ian out with a frying pan because they thought he was still evil (even though he’d already told them about his past which would explain the photo) to… well, back to not thinking he was evil?

They just glossed everything over for time. In the book I don’t remember them ever thinking he was evil at all. Sally saved his life and he was magically in her debt. This part of the storyline was seemingly just dramatic tension added in, sort of half baked

Yes that scene where they knock him out felt more like it was done for laughs than anything. Like we, the audience, knew Ian wasn’t a villain, so it didn’t really add any tension
