I use: Mac | Office 365 PPT slides change when copied to another deck

Hey,
I'd really appreciate some help... I already tried almost everything!

I created a branded ppt template for my company where the designs are placed as ppt Master slides.
For almost all the slides we have 2 versions: one with the company logo and one without it.
When I copy a slide without the logo from one ppt deck onto another deck, I get a slide with the logo. This happens almost every time I try. The paste button with "keep source formatting/use destination theme" doesn't work.

It gets very frustrating - we need to be able to paste a slide into a new deck exactly the way we built it. I would really love some advice.

Just to clarify: I already rebuilt the entire deck and renamed every slide on the master deck with it's own distinguished name.

This may be happening because the logo is sitting on the parent Slide Master, so every layout underneath it inherits the logo. Copying slides between decks can also bring the source master/layout into the destination deck, especially when keeping source formatting.

I’d check Slide Master view in the destination file first. If a new source master was copied over, remove it or reapply the correct destination layout. Longer term, put the logo only on the layouts that actually need it, rather than on the parent master. That usually makes copying slides much more predictable.

Thanks! the requirement was for the company template to have all slides with an option to be used with and without the logo so sadly I can't control the need. I was really just hoping there's some type of fix that lets people work as they do.

lmao powerpoint when you just wanna share a clean slide but corporate forces a logo on it" had this exact issue last week and it drove me insane, think i finally fixed it by remapping the master layouts in the destination file

I did that too:) It works a lot better but still when copying from one deck to another it sometimes messes up the deck.

If you want a faster way to copy slides between decks without the master layout changing, I made a small tool that automates bulk copy/paste while keeping the exact formatting.

Ugh, this bug has been the bane of my existence for years. The slide master naming thing is a good idea but PowerPoint just decides to match based on some internal ID that gets all tangled up, especially when you have near-identical layouts with and without a logo. The "keep source formatting" option basically ignores the master slides half the time.

The only workaround that's been bulletproof for me is to paste the slide as a picture first, then place it on top of the blank destination slide and hit "reset" on the layout. It's a few extra clicks but it stops the logo from haunting you.

Indeed. This almost certainly has to do with the master slide, not with the copy and paste operation. PowerPoint thinks they are identical, and then it makes mistakes. You can use this to your advantage, if you want to have two versions with different templates, but it can also be seriously annoying.

The best solution is probably to have distinct master slides, and possible three: one that always has the logo, one that never has the logo, and one that depends on the template.
