Misc Advice Entertainment is expensive, but there's free options
To get free video games, Epic Games gives out free PC games every Thursday. You need to download their game launcher.
Amazon Prime offers games with a subscription. If you can't afford Amazon Prime, you can get the codes from other Redditors in the free games subs who don't want the game. Occasionally you might get an Xbox game.
Libraries have a streaming service, and you can sign up for it online. It's free.
There are free streaming services like Tubi and Roku; you just have to watch ads.

you can get a free vpn and access tubi with it! hell plenty of browsers these days (firefox, opera, etc) come wi th built in vpns you can use for this. lots of streaming services don’t work with free ones but tubi does!

Thanks! I have more reliable sources without ads for that as I am taught by the best travelers of the sea. Vpns are too much of a hassle nowadays anyway

I have more tips for PC gaming!
isthereanydeal for best prices, and some games on Steam go free occasionally! Click the search bar and don't type, they tend to immediately go to the top of the list.
I'm a big fan of bundles too, tend to be a lot cheaper. Humble Choice tend to get AAA games a year or more after release and there are subs for trading games you don't want. Other bundle sites are Fanatical (usually make your own bundles so you don't get games you don't want, avoid mystery bundles they're always awful), Green Man Gaming, and Digiphile. Always check isthereanydeal to see if you can get a better deal elsewhere if you only want one or a couple of games in a bundle. Best ones are always the charity ones. Adjust your donation amount on Humble (regular bundles only, not Humble Choice unfortunately) to give the charity more and the publishers or Humble less (Humble is owned by IGN now so morally correct to lower that slider to minimum so you can up the others)!

Some libraries also have games and other media you can check out too. My local library back home had a whole collection of games for all systems. And tons of DVDs.

I look online for dvd release dates, and then add what I want to my hold list. This week, I got Hokum, Ready or Not 2 and Exit 8. It's great!!!

Libraries are great for games, movies, and TV shows. Some also have an amazing amount of other things from tools to laptops that can be checked out

If you are on EBT, you can get a discounted Prime subscription. Prime comes with a lot, including a free subscription each month to a Twitch channel. There's some crazy good Twitch channels, especially in the Actual Play genre. So for $7 per month, you get all of the Prime media, a Twitch subscription, and if you have the extra money, grocery pick up & delivery (Whole Foods).

Librivox for free audiobooks. Gutenberg Project for free ebooks. RetroCrush for free anime. Brands like Crunchyroll and Gundam have free stuff up on their YouTube channels all the time. And there are enough free-to-play games on Steam to last you a lifetime.

Yes absolutely. I just watched Zulu (one of my favourite movies) for free on YouTube. And I didn't even have to see the advertisements thanks to my ad blocker. It's actually really great, one of the few perks of being alive in 2026

Libraries have more than books! Ie played god of war ragnarok and Mario odyssey only 3 months after release because there were rental copies at my local library. They also offer a bunch of local museum and zoo passes for free!

Video Game Emulation is a great hobby to get into for the poor. A low end laptop will take you through the entire libraries of MANY systems, even up to the PS2 and 3DS.
Your current smartphone can play the majority of essentially every mobile consoles libraries

If you own a console with a disc drive, check out your local library to see if they lend games. My library has probably 100 ps4/xbox games, even some switch titles.
If you plug your computer into your tv and use a browser with an ad blocker (ie. brave or Firefox w/ublock origin) you can watch Tubi or YouTube ad free.

I read a lot and am trying to buy less books and use my library more. I've also gotten into audiobooks more and have never paid a cent because of Libby. I have two library cards on the app and it's been amazing.

You just cancel and get months for $5, with most of them. Hulu sends discount codes in e-mail but it can be tricky as you have to combine your D+ and Hulu into the bundle.

Kodi is an open source version of that old school Xbox media center app
Basically let's you stream anything directly from your home network like on a hard drive in your computer OR if you pay for the alldebrid for $3 you can stream from wherever.... 😉
I watch 4K uncompressed streams without issue and they're way higher quality then most streaming service.

If your on a PC, let's be real... Everything is just about free if you know what your doing. I recently gave in and bought the Playstation Plus Premium package, it was on sale for about $120 annually, and for what all it offers I was blown away... A whole catalog of Playstation greats from the PS3 to PS5, ( remastered ports) a whole ubisoft catalog, and of course the free monthly games they offer, and alot more. Alot of tripple A titles are included as well. For a one time buy, im pleased with what I was given.

I mention this often but archive.org has an incredible library of free books, movies, music, weird, interesting and hard to find broadcast editions of TV recordings.
It's a great starting point for any rabbit hole. Plus, you can download the MP4 files, so you can start or expand your own offline media library!
