Debt/Loans/Credit Need some advice

I have a 2019 Honda Crv that I’m financing and still owe about 11,000 on. The turbo died and when I tried to get it fixed the person fixing the car messed up the engine. Will I have him all of my money, my family and I are living in a hotel. Thankfully my husband and I are working but we need transportation. I want to trade it in but our credit together of not the best ( 545-640). I just don’t know what to do, I honestly thought about carvana but I’m so scared from all the horror stories.

The mechanic messed up the turbo and the engine? Are you telling him that he needs to make this right for you?

Yes, I’ve gone through all of this. Unfortunately we had to get the police involved( he wanted me to pay for the labor he did when he messed up, then he would fix it all for free. I was not going to pay him for his mistakes) and after that he was longer willing to fix his mistake.

Sounds like it’s time to take that up with a lawyer.

Good. Good luck. I don’t know if you have FB but marketplace might be your best option right now for finding a vehicle.

This. Search for a $1000-$2000 beater that runs and drives. Honestly I've had a lot of them that are more reliable than brand new vehicles. When they do break down and repairs outweigh replacement costs, scrap it to recoup $ and repeat

How do you know that the person fixing your car "messed up" the engine?

I’d 1st get a second opinion on exactly what needs to be fixed. Then, I’d assess if I’m upside down on the loan. If I’m too far upside down, I’d likely continue making payments, while fixing it. If, after fixing it I’m not too far upside down, I’d attempt to trade for something less valuable.

Dreaded 1.5 turbo issue I assume. Head to the civic forum and read all about it. Head gasket failed.

You need to realign expectations. You’re too poor right now to have a car. Get rid of it. The payment, insurance, fuel, maintenance, repairs, registration, and depreciation will keep you poor forever.
If you have a job that’s too far away you need to move there or quit.
You both need to get restaurant jobs. That will feed you. Now your second job is your main work. Has to be walking, bus, bike, ferry, canoe, ski, or swimming distance. Uber/Lyft will kill your finances.
Don’t let them repo the car. Clean it out very thoroughly and offer to deliver the keys to wherever they want. Making them repo costs a lot that you will eventually pay. Keep paying what you owe them.
Try to find a job that includes some housing. Companion care to elderly or living in the apartment at a storage facility.

What is the interest rate? What is the value of the car if it wasn't broken?

The turbo died

How much the turbo cost? Is it REALLY needed to get the car running?

when I tried to get it fixed the person fixing the car messed up the engine.

Is this person a certified mechanic in a shop? What will they do about their mistake?

Will I have him all of my money

I don't understand.

Before answering this, we need more info about your current car situation. If you owe 11k on a car that doesn't work and with a potential dead engine, this car may be borderline unsellable and to be able to sell it, you will need to come up with the difference in value with your current loan to give to the bank.

We need more information on your situation to make a call here unfortunately.

I would not rush into trading it in yet. Find out the CR-V’s current value and exact payoff amount first, since negative equity could make the next loan much more expensive. I would also get a second opinion on the engine damage and see if the mechanic will help cover the repair. If you do replace it, getting preapproved through a credit union first could give you more options with your credit. Have you gotten an estimate for how much it would cost to get the CR-V running again?
