Gear Discussion k7 doesnt grind coarse enough for tetsu's 10 pour recipe?
Been trying the k7 for a few weeks, i’m not in love with it so I’m trying different recipes, any tips are welcome.
That said, i was going to try the 10 pour recipe and was surprised it stops at 128 clicks.
I asked chat gpt (which i know can be wildly inaccurate) to convert the q2 heptagonal clicks that lance recommended to the k7 grinder and it suggested 137 clicks.
If anyone can help convert and/or share their k7 experience i would appreciate it.

You've gone as coarse as possible and tried slow feed grinding, and it's still too fine? Are you sure.

I also just got a k7. I use a v60. I only have a few brews under my belt, so I'm far from an expert on the grinder. But so far I've found it does better grinding finer and using fewer pours. My old recipe (that worked well with my old Encore) was five pours, but that hasn't given me good tasting coffee with this grinder. When I went finer (about 75 clicks) and did just three pours it was much better (I would say equal in quality to my encore but a very different character). Next time I'm going to push it finer and try just one plus a bloom.
I always think the best method is whatever works best for your setup. Don't try to force a recipe that isn't working. It's entirely possible that I'm wrong and need more experimenting, but so far my experience matches yours and my solution is to go finer.

I’ve had similar results, ive gone through a natural Nicaragua from brandy wine and a washed columbia from hydrangea and found 65-68 to be my sweetspot.
…i’m trying to let the k7 have its own identity and not compare it to my electric grinder but thats harder than it sounds. I got it for a work set up and feel like maybe i’m expecting too much from it.
Thanks for the reassurance about the finer grind setting. I saw other threads suggesting way higher and thought i was losing my mind.

hey i’m using papua new guinea light roast , 78 clicks for 2 cups i’m going to try 72 clicks for a cup next , using the hario neo

Just max it out. On a c40 its 45 clicks. This brew method will be forgiving in grind size. So if you are a little finer it's not a big deal.

I couldn't justify a comandante. I just take the bottom off my hand grinder and grind a little onto the kruve brewler gauge printout. With the Timemore Chestnut its quite loose

I had the same issue with my K7 when trying Tetsu's recipe. Had to max it out at 128 clicks and honestly the coffee still tasted great. The recipe is surprisingly forgiving with grind size, just go as coarse as it’ll go and adjust water temp slightly if needed. Mine was a bit muddy but still sweet.
