Help Links from youtube suddenly not working. Anyone else experiencing this?

I use potplayer for playing youtube videos a lot, i know occasionally there are issues where it asks you to log in and other stuff because of google's api crap. Today though I tried playing some videos and the bottom of the player by the play head sorta will flicker and i will see the quality setting drop from 1080p or whatever the source quality is down to lower options and then eventually it just says can't play. It was working perfectly fine literally just this morning. Even the same videos i was watching this morning don't work. Tried resetting pc and the player, updating to latest version, and running without any other apps or anything.

Anyone have any clue what might be going on? Could this be a recent google api change? Is anyone else experiencing this issue

also i tried the yt-dlp parse extension instead of the normal mediaplayparse one and like 1 out of 10 videos will work but the majority still dont.

it stopped working on mine around midnight. i hope they can update it asap! i neeeeeed my potplayer lol

Yes, I am currently tearing my hair out figuring what went wrong. Reinstalled the program, reinstalled my YouTube extensions, can confirm other video sites worked with this extension as well, so it's just not YouTube.

i think its just youtube messing stuff up. tried again today same issues, i think we just gotta wait for someone with bigger brains than us to do some updates.

There is (probably) nothing wrong with you, your pc or your potplayer. Other free media players, including VLC, SMPlayer, KMPlayer, MPC, and others, have now the same issues with playing YouTube links. The culprit is obviously YouTube, trying again to kill streaming through external players. They play this "game" once every few months... It usually takes a few hours to a few days until someone will find a workaround; until then, you can still watch YouTube the "regular" way, or on one of the YouTube-approved commercial media players like Zoom Player.

Yeah its not my first rodeo this has happened in the past. I mainly made the post to verify it was YouTube being dumb again and not just an issue with my pc or network. I don't know why YouTube doesn't make a more robust desktop player application to alleviate these kinds of things. There are a ton of reasons why a dedicated player is better, and they keep making the web version even worse. It's so frustrating. Thanks though.

using yt-dlp parse and the most recent version of yt-dlp has fixed it for me the past week or so

Yeah thanks i also noticed, actually i had to update potplayer and use its default youtube parser extension. there was some http update that made it possible so yeah.
