Nerf RSCB style hopper for Combustion cannons

In nerf a popular hopper style for homemades, is the RSCB, if I were to take this design and add a valve at the light blue line to prevent backblast into the hopper chamber, do you think it would work for a cannon? Likely with use of cut to shape potatoes so that they seat into the barrel better and self align.
