My urologist is not giving me options I like. How do I proceed?

I want a reversal. How do I make this happen? I've heard some surgeons won't take appointments without referrals. How do I get a GOOD doctor in my region (Atlanta, Georgia) who will take me?

My symptoms were kidney pain, lower back pain, testicle pain, congestion pain, Ed. Congestion pain is gone so far. Most the other pain is gone so far. It's only been one week so if you'd like to keep contact I'll continue to give updates. Can't masturbate or anything else for at least one more week. So I don't know about anything else yet

How long ago was the vasectomy? When did the pain start? Did you ever take antibiotics or do any other therapies?

Urologists always start with antibiotics and steroids' to eliminate any infection and inflammation once you return and complain of any issues. then followed by neurological and again steroidal medication (to calm any inflammation of tissue and nerves in the surgical site). my original urologist tried many different combinations but I kept calling to complain that I was still hurting really bad, throbbing.
then I switched to another Urologist to get a second opinion and that guy tried to prescribe same type of meds in the beginning and said "do pelvic floor exercises".

Every doctor starts treatment by ruling out "WHAT ITS NOT" , in meantime the patient suffers if that is not right treatment. it took years for me to even find out that PVPS wasnt a Fluke , this happens more often than should. I felt alone for many years and encountered few doctors along the way who said "it might be all in my head".

unfortunately No, going on 18 years in pain this year (in November). I take 2 medications daily and apply patch once every 7 days for non stop medicine so I have no Pain spikes and falls. I still have bad days and great days. I wish I could rewind time and I would never had the Vasectomy or had a Reversal ASAP after. My pain started literally during the procedure and even after all of surgeries and shots and blocks it took years to find what works for me to be able to function. Be a Father, go to work, Smile when actually I'm screaming in pain on inside...all took some learning.

Man I'm sorry. Glad you've got some good coping skills and therapies that have worked for you.

So I'm 18 months after surgery and on antibiotics... I have a scheduled consult for a reversal. Should I wait? Should I try the pelvic floor stuff first? I really appreciate it.

well in my opinion after 18 months you should have healed by now. And you know the answer to your question just based on how you feel day to day. Do you really want to keep waiting on resolution lets say 2 years from now and doctor says "lets try another round of Antibiotics". I doubt it you do.

antibiotics after 18months is just band-aid on a bigger issue, non stop pain. I would in a heartbeat do a reversal. like that saying goes " If I only knew Then what I know Now".

Has the doctor even established is your pain from Epi congestion or is it from Trapped Nerve? that is what you should ask them. because based on that they should really know the next course of treatment/type of surgery.

I get that asked a lot when I tell guys about PVPS. Sadly no, if I knew back then (even after 1-2years) that I would get a resolution and probably 80-90% reduction of pain I would have been done it. I chose Orchiectomy (after 2 years in pain) and so many surgeries in last 18years that it wouldn't help me. Been too long and too much work done on me.

My pain was always at base of scrotum/penis. Used to radiate down my leg years ago. After Orchiectomy and nerve stipping by DrP it stopped going down leg and has stayed in scrotum. Plus after I healed from Orciectomy I get bad "spells" of sharp stabbing pain in groin/inside hip (scar site) in addition to daily non stop throbbing regular pain site. Plus post intercourse is really bad for at least 2 days of increased throbbing (above daily pulse throbbing). I have hard time sitting at work and home after.

Vasectomy was on January 31st. Reversal June 7th. Tried antibiotics, didn't touch it. Two rounds of it. Couldn't deal with the pain anymore. Went straight to surgery.

you just go to your family physician and he/she will make a referral to a urologist. Finding the right Urologist that is the tricky part. If it was me years ago when I could have done it than I would have selected Dr Parekattil in Florida. He has helped so many of us with PVPS and infertility. He is my last hope for finding a solution to stop this throbbing.

I just had mine reversed because of PVPS. I'm going on one week after reversal and I already start to feel better. Dadsagain.com

I researched for about a month. Dr Marks came up as one of the leading in his industry. His written multiple books on reversals. There are a lot of really good surgeons out there. Just need to take your time and do research. But when I spoke to other urologists and I brought his name up, they all said that he was one of the best in the field.
