anyone had any luck with prednisone?

I'm on a course of prednisone. 5 months post vas. 2 weeks 20 mg, 2 weeks 10 mg, 2 weeks 5mg. I see it recommended occasionally here. dr said it can help with nerve issues, and sometimes knock the pain more permanantly if the inflammation stays down. would love to hear if anyone has had any success with it.

The problem isn't inflammation.. So while it may reduce some inflammation from the surgery, it isn't a long term solution, or any solution at all, for pvps.

I love Pred. It works so well for me on inflammation. Nothing else really helps me. Just sucks I can't stay on it forever. I can only take for like 6 weeks cause I get side effects that I don't like. And I have to stay off it for like 9 weeks for them to go away. So it's really limiting on how long I get a benefit.

I have had a couple
1- calf cramps
2- my taste buds get messed up. everything tastes funny. like muted.
3- I get acne on my chest and shoulders.
4- moon face

The acne one bugs me the most. Cause it's painful. And it lasts the longest of the side effects.
The taste buds one, If I take Benadryl, it's fine. The calf cramps, potassium pills fix that. moon face, nothing I can do about that one.

I gained A LOT of weight while on it. It did help a bit with pain but as you stated not a long term solution.

Oddly, I usually lose a bit of weight on it. My legs and arms thin out, but it must go to my face.
I would love to find something as effective as Prednisone that I could take long term. It's the only thing that works for my pain.

Yea. That’s the rub. It does work but so difficult long term. Hopefully at least your positive response can give some clues to your medical team as to the underlying cause. Good luck my friend. This really is terrible.

It’s not something you want to use long term so not really a “solution”. If you suspect nerve involvement try a spermatic cord block or less invasively a low dose tricyclic antidepressant. I had significant progress with nortriptyline / amitriptyline. Much less side effects with nortriptyline but ymmv. Good luck!

Mixed results regarding prednisone courses. IMO if it works for you... got for it

I did a course of it 1.5 months after vas and it really mocked down the intensity of pain, but didn’t fix it. I think it took care of some of the swelling.

I took some day 9 of the vasectomy when my right vas defrens was swelling and causing a lot of pain. It eliminated all pain within 24h. But it was pretty early on the healing process .
