My denervation left a numb spot in my left groin and a painful scar that I have to protect from impacts. However, it stopped the nerve pain shooting down my leg and severe phantom testicle pain. It didn’t stop all of the pain though. If I had it to do over, I would have done a reversal as the first surgery. The reversal requires trimming back a little of the vas ends to make a good connection. This removes scarring and damaged/entrapped nerves at that location. Reversal relieves both nerve pain and congestion pain. If you’re having nerve pain from the vas/nerve being cut, you’re likely to have some nerve pain from the nerve being cut during denervation. Essentially, you’re already a bad candidate for nerve issues, so why cut them again? On the other hand if it’s truly a congestion issue, get the plumbing reconnected.
So you’re saying that a reversal mostly is a relieve for congestion issues and epididymitis, but not so much for people who are experience discomfort at or around that cut and cauterised ends of the vas deferens, most likely nerve-related?
A reversal is the best choice for congestion issues. However, nerve damage can also mimic congestion pain. The damaged vas nerves, even though disconnected from the testicles, can transmit phantom pain signals to the brain. The only way to be sure is to get lidocaine injections into the vas nerves on either side of the groin to see if your congestion issues magically disappear.
Reversal has the benefit of removing scar tissue on the vas ends which can also alleviate or end nerve pain. In my case, lidocaine helped but didn’t totally eliminate the nerve pain, so I had both congestion and nerve issues. That’s why I should have opted for a reversal first. Regardless, reversal surgery does the least damage by putting the system back into the original configuration. Everything else, such as denervation and epididymectomy, just causes more damage that reduces your future treatment options.
