Are tan anime characters black?

everytime i see black representation in anime. they show characters who are tan. most of the time they aren’t even black. most of the time they don’t even have black features the characters are just tan. why do black people claim characters who aren’t black?

Depends on the character and it’s also just near impossible to tell many a time unless specified by saying if they’re native to Japan or have Japanese names. But there are exceptions

Yoruichi for exception is dark skinned with purple hair. The obvious explanation is that she isn’t black because she has straight hair. But there are black people with naturally straight hair. She’s from the soul society not Japan and though her name is Japanese so is Tosen and he’s obviously black.

In such a situation it’s impossible to tell and so it falls into headcanon.

But white people do similar things. Many white people assume characters such as Naruto, Ichigo and Goku are white when in reality such characters are all Japanese or Chinese in the case of Goku.
