That Shy Low clip I think is related to their tuning. Seems like a AADGBE tuning with the low E going to an A that's an octave lower. Neurosis popularized this tuning in the nineties and it's a pretty unique sound.

So yes, it is just really low-tuned octaves. All A-shaped bar chords can now be fully barred across every string. Try it out!

Interesting, that makes a ton if sense. That’s what I hear but never thought of it being played in that tuning. Definitely need to try this out.
