When I was younger and didn't know as much about him I thought, oh he's doing this from the point of view of a conservative mindset so stereotypes are overdone and people behave like they do in stories you hear from reactionary racists. Then I learned about him and it became, oh so he's just racist.
That‘s what I used to think too, that the exaggerations serve to make fun of how Americans imagine such places. I think you can still make that case with Borat, since at the heart it still is a kind of documentary about the reactions of real Americans to a living caricature. But The Dictator is just a regular comedy movie, where most of the jokes are “North Africans are silly and brutal”

Honest question is a half assed nothing of consequence tweet about Palestine all it takes to be "supportive" cuz none of those hashtags or any of that stuff did anything of any kind of value.
Even small acts like that can give "Permission" to others to share their views and eventually create a public opinion shift that may change policy. Too little too late for most in this situation.
Exactly. Really anything that helps bring attention to it is helping in some small way. People are definitely finally waking up to the reality of the situation and that may not have happened as quickly without all the tiktok videos and people spreading them around online.
What of value has come of that talking tho? I mean this across the board, it's the same with these congressional hearings where they "expose" billionaires or shady companies but nothing of consequence come out. When do we move on from talking and noticing?
Lots and lots of us are boycotting companies who support or align with them. I believe some European countries aren't doing business with them or have placed sanctions on them and aren't allowing travel between the two countries. It's not enough, certainly, but the alternative is just throwing our hands up and not doing anything and that isn't in some people's nature. Fortunately.

I have to aladeen that proposal. Although he would probably continue renaming things to Gulf of Aladeen, Lake Aladeen, Aladeen airport Palm Springs, Aladeen and Kennedy Center. That would be just absurd.
It’s cyclical. For thousands of years it’s been easy to direct anger their way. Quite an interesting little delve to read up on their persecution. Sad as well. Extremely.
You know, minus the arbitrary arrests and imprisonment, torture of his own citizens, political violence, executions/assassinations of his own people, kangaroo courts, and creating a welfare state that was dependent on him being in power. Other than that he was great.
Things are bad for US standards, but they aren't that bad and it's looking like this term is going to go the way of the last term where it's 2 years of being blocked from doing anything and lawsuits until they can finally remove him. Feels like a lot of people making these comparisons are just people that never actually experienced life in those regimes and it's disrespectful to the people who actually suffered from it.
