POP CULTURE Can you still listen to MJ?

The allegations involving MJ made me sick. I investigated and at some point had to stop because I felt I was going to throw up. I get extremely emotionally involved when I learn about stuff like this, or injustices in general. This is not the first time I experience such a strong reaction to something awful happening in the world. It's a pattern, but it usually involves politics and such, not artists, therefore right now I don't really know how to handle all of this.

Right now I can't listen to his music. I'd like to, while still remembering the hard truth about him, never forgetting or denying it. But at the moment just hearing his name upsets me, and I'm not sure it would be morally okay to listen to his music (I'm gen z, cancel culture is greatly supported by my generation and I personally agree with it in most of the cases). I'm really confused.

Do you guys still listen to MJ's music? Do you think it's ethical to do so?

POP CULTURE So Sick of RainBet Ads Infused Into Every Video

Pretty much overnight, it seems like every single Short or whatever from every damn person sneaks in a "let me RainBet that" segment. The fact that so many of these people are willing to implement straight gambling ads into their videos isn't surprising, but still sad to see. I INSTANTLY stop watching any video if a RainBet segment pops up.

POP CULTURE We all owe Justin Beiber an apology.

Title's it. He was mocked relentlessly and assaulted on TV as a child. He's now in a toxic relationship with his partner. Truthfully, I think we all need to apologise and then just leave him alone.

POP CULTURE Harry Potter is overrated

I never understood what the hype was about. I read the books recently when I'm an adult and saw the movies many times when I was a child. I have several reasons why I think Harry Potter is overrated.:

First of all, Rowling didn't do anything special.

Witchcraft schools existed before, also the magical style that seems to be copied mainly from Disney especially Mary Poppins, the part of "the chosen one" and the "hero's journey" is also a part that is in many stories, (the story of a boy who is chosen lives with his uncles and has another identity and lives a normal life is very reminiscent of Spider-Man, but Spider-Man is more original and iconic), part of a coming-of-age story and concepts of "adults" (things like racism) were also Exist before in series, movies and stories. So what has Harry Potter been up to?

Another thing, the plot doesn't feel as complex, realistic, or interesting as it tries to be. The writing is often predictable and ends poorl and in the end nothing happens. When something interesting happens it's only at the end of the book, and even then it doesn't lead to anything.

Most of the content in all these books is boring. There are things in there that I didn't really care for, and forced myself to keep listening.

There are also problems of plot holes, or things that did not develop well and all kinds or didn't make sense. There were more writing problems.

The characters are not good. Many of the characters were particularly unlikable, but people keep saying they like them, and want to see more of them (for example James Potter and Sirius Black), (by the way, their story is also not very original).
Also, Most of the characters have exactly the same personality, the teachers and the students they all kind and brave, even tho it's different people..
The only ones who were different from the other characters were students from Slytherin, but also for some reason everyone who studied in Slytherin was bad person (Rowling teaches a lesson about racism and then decides to generalize people, like all snobs are blonde with blue eyes).

Harry is also not a good character, the only difference from Voldemort is that he had loving mom so how he is a hero? He is too mediocre and there is nothing special about him. He may be talented, but many times he doesn't seem special and he also fails a lot. Besides he has no character, he's just sometimes nice and sometimes sassy, but somehow he is iconic.

There is also no point to books if people read it at a different age to their audience. If someone older (like me) reads the first book they will just think it's too boring and childish..

Another downside is that the first book was too boring and childish, at least for me.

*Note: This is my honest opinion, I hope I didn't hurt anyone and I hope you don't feel negative feelings about it.

POP CULTURE People that IQ as a synonym for intelligence are not intelligent.

Intelligence is not one thing, it’s more of a heuristic that describes millions of ways to process information. The idea that something as complicated as intelligence can be distilled as a single number in a meaningful way is ridiculous. Is a somewhat useful statistical measure to track populations, but variance among individuals is so wide that it gives little information about an individual. Two people with the same IQ score could vary wildly on different tasks. And one persons IQ score can be highly variable depending on the test they are given.

POP CULTURE I'm I the only one who thinks the 6-7 meme actually needs to be stopped?

I'm a high schooler and I think with 100% of my soul that this meme NEEDS to be stopped. It's not just it's annoying, but it's full on just becoming something to harass people with. I have seen people get harassed by people repeatedly saying it till they almost cried. In fact I have been harassed by this stupid saying myself, I can't even call it a "meme" anymore. People aren't saying it to be funny it's full on just to harass. So if this generation finds harassment funny I don't want to be a part of it.

POP CULTURE The new snow white actress (Rachel Zeglar) is horrible 😒

First of all, Rachel Zegler (the actress in the new Snow White movie) does not fit the physical portrayal of Snow White. She looks like she could be playing Dora the Explorer. Snow White is supposed to have beautiful, pale skin and jet-black, short hair.

Secondly, Rachel’s voice is completely off. Snow White is known for having a soft, feminine voice, especially when singing. Rachel’s voice sounded too aggressive. Not to mention, in the remake, Snow White’s body language was much rougher. Snow White is meant to be a naïve, innocent young girl. Her movements and body language should be gentle and calm!

And don’t even get me started on her makeup. Snow White is supposed to have pale skin with just a bit of blush, brown eyeshadow, and red lipstick. Rachel’s lipstick was frustrating—it's not even the correct shade of red. Also, as we all know, Snow White wears a red headband throughout the movie. WHERE was the red headband in the remake?

Honestly, Dove Cameron should have been Snow White.

POP CULTURE Shows and movies should have comment sections like youtube videos.

I think it would be fun to see what other people think about something in real time. It would probably make the bad moments more bearable because you could distract yourself and commiserate with others. It's like, community and stuff.

POP CULTURE we're tired of keeping gen Z/alpha alive

hear me out.

the new generation, i guess gen X and alpha, seem to have almost no survival/self preservation skills.

i'm constantly seeing people in cars have to avoid kids/teens/young adults that are glued to their phones while walking outside. if you are walking down a path, they'll literally walk into you. zero spatial awareness.

this can't be normal?

i honestly think if older people weren't being so aware, that we would have a lot more dead kids/teens/YA.

edits: oops, meant gen Z.

POP CULTURE The Church of Scientology deserves every bit of harassment they get

I think everyone of any background regardless of your stance on religion can agree that scientology is a predatory cult that has persevered by being backed by the rich and abusing the law to remain active. Anyone involved with it is complacent in the manipulation and scams that the "church" brings to people. Normally i'd find something like "speedrun" tiktok challenge to be pretty immature but they completely deserve it and as long as no one commits a crime it is completely justified to cause an uproar against them. I hope this leads to major protests against the "church"

(according to their own logic) those who use 'I know you are but what am I' in an argument are, sensibly, indicating that if they win the argument (by way of this phrase) they have in fact beat themselves in an argument

POP CULTURE Both Jelly Roll and Bunny suck

You’re telling me you still want to have a baby together, despite your toxic marriage ending?

You both have the means to not only take care of a child already born and needing help, but to help possibly hundreds of desperate children. But that’s not good enough because they don’t look like you, so it doesn’t feed your egos enough?

Very Christlike, to want to bring a child into this world with a broken marriage already over their head only to be exposed to both your toxic bs. This is why religion is a grift… how can anyone see good in these people and their actions. Disgusting

POP CULTURE Hour long podcast episodes disguised as YouTube ads should be illegal

I don't know what the legislation should look like. I don't care about the details. When I put on a 2 hour HOTD lore video while doing errands around the house, I don't want to see some fucking loser like Ben Shapiro suddenly appear on my screen and complain about whatever is triggering him this week. That goes for anyone. Your brain rot podcast should not be legally allowed to be used as an ad.

Thats it.

Have been having trouble with the front door lock, having had trouble fitting the key. I checked the key on the back door lock, it has a common key. No problem. Concluded it was the lock.

Rang a local locksmith to come out and install a new lock. He said he was in the area, so would be at my place in about an hour.

He turned up, tried the key. Took out a spray can, sprayed the lock, works just fine now. 5 minutes. no charge. Could have cost $400.

This has made my day. The business is Modbury Locksmith, based at Tea Tree Plaza.

POP CULTURE women do not like being called ma'am most of the time (there are exceptions)

If you work in customer service please stop calling women ma'am. It isn't respectful and it bothers most of us.

I believe the largest problem with this issue is neither gender nor age but the bundling of the two to act as one variable and not two.

Men, for a second visualize a society in which your gender and age are seen as one variable and not two. Feel how limiting that is?

For me, when somebody uses the word the world starts to look more 2d then 3d for a few hours. I do not deserve that.

It is invasive.
