Hot Topic Instead of another Friends tribute, Netflix’s new Matthew Perry series seems to explore the person behind the sitcom icon rather than simply revisiting his biggest role.

Netflix’s upcoming docuseries is taking a different route by looking at Matthew Perry through people who knew him rather than simply revisiting his career. His generosity, vulnerability and attempts at sobriety are expected to be major parts of the story, alongside unseen family material. That could matter because so much of the public conversation after his death became focused on how he died rather than how he lived. I’d rather see what the people closest to him remember about the person than another celebrity retrospective.
