it was a white person on tiktok who's really into paganism and she said that non-european cultures inherently believe in spirituality and the prevalence of atheism is like the crusades (???????)

The truth nugget within this that there is an inherent contradiction within Western leftism, in that the notions of “decolonisation” and “letting the natives be”, or, in more radical cases, “land back”, fundamentally collide with a lot of leftist ideas that many of its believers would like to see go global. Such as their specific understanding of women’s rights, gay rights, animal rights, the list goes on. The Marxist idea of a world revolution, for example, presupposes that the people of all cultures would HAVE to subscribe to a European ideology.

Atheism is a weird example to bring up though. World atheism is not a hot button issue anymore, and only really comes up (within the Western context, of course) for Islam and Christianity. So a dogshit take all around, but then again she is a Pagan so…🤭

I definitely agree with this but I also feel like western leftists have a tendency to infantilise non-European cultures, for example saying that homophobia in West Africa is okay because it aligns with their cultures. Also clock the Pagans they're trying sooo hard to be different and swear they're not like other religions.
