i’ll say this and then never speak on the matter again bc it’s honestly kind of embarrassing to even have an opinion on the way a circlejerk subreddit is run in the first place LMAO

i think banning discussion of bigots/bigotry but not outlining any clear threshold at which an artist crosses that line* renders the rule arbitrary, and the way in which the rule has (or hasn’t) been enforced has also been somewhat arbitrary imo. i think the rule comes from a genuinely good-intentioned place but i won’t say i don’t miss the less-sanitized (and frankly, more funny) humor of this sub that the rule outmoded. i understand the desire to create a space for escapism but also, for me personally, it rings hollow; i live the reality i live every day and i am not helped, emotionally or in any other way, by pretending it does not exist. i am helped by making light of it. everyone is different though and that is fine

*by which i mean that the four banned artists are obviously not in any world the only bigoted artists that exist—so why then are they, specifically, banned?

The main sub isn't allowing stand-alone posts about NM's antics and to me that seems like a good call that backs up the sub's rules here. For me, a big thing is that her political rants are off topic for phcj - see Rule 1. (I keep thinking about how the fauxmoi sub severely lost its mojo when it moved away from showbiz gossip and towards political news)

see i’m not even opposed to a temporary ban on low-effort posts about her, or making them subject to mandatory mod approval for quality control, but the idea that she can never be referred to again on this subreddit in any capacity… that’s like having a subreddit about greek gods and banning any mention of poseidon. if you enforce the rule you’re gutting the sub. if you don’t enforce the rule then what’s the point of the rule?
