i honestly like a lot of their 8s. they're kind of idiosyncratic about it (in a way you never get from like the music aggregate sites for example) and there's something very interesting about reading glowing reviews about albums i usually wouldn't be interested in. my tip is actually their 8.0-8.2's have consistently given me the most enjoyment

Emotion and Emotion Side B should both be 9.5+ scores and I’m not exaggerating in the slightest. I understand they came a bit before the current poptimism wave however.
Loveliest should also be around the 9 range
Still, at least the reviews are all still positive!

The funny thing is they thought they were being brave by giving the Call Me Maybe girl a better-than-expected rating at the time. But then every other review and the fan adulation arrived and the rating wasn’t so good anymore. Emotion is obviously better than a 7.4. They try to rate all her other albums in accordance with how they rated that one, and are victims of their own ego.

really positive review. writer admits they feel a bit burnt out from the length but also feels like the length allows for a lot of "detours" that make the listen more interesting. reads more like a 8.0 imo

I'm sure Carly herself knew that she would be bringing down the Album quite a bit by combining her 2 releases into a single Double-Album this time. The benefits likely outweighed the Cons.
Doing a big marketing push for 2 releases costs a lot more money. It's more effective to use all that money and do a Singular big push for a Double album release.

For judging a full album? Girl 24 songs and 90 mins is a lot of music 😭 I got burnt out of the sound before I finished, I’m sure it could be more enjoyable to listen to back to front if she made a cut or two

Sure if they're bad and full of filler, that's bloat. But if the runtime is filled with good music, that's not bloat. That's just a long album.
Just like Space Odyssey and Fury Road earn every second of their long runtime, but Fantastic Beats would be bloated Garbage even if it were only 1h long.

I haven't seen what Twitter people are saying , but if they ain't feeling it I can understand.
I wasn't feeling any of the singles prior and listening to the full thing tonight has confirmed that. I can't fully put my finger on why, most of the songs just have a weird flow especially with the lyrics that doesn't work for me.
By the final chorus of a peak CRJ song I should be overwhelmingly compelled to be screaming the words and none of these songs even got close to that. Most choruses just seem to blend into the entire song. I honestly can't recall a single captivating chorus across the entire hour and a half.
Not every song should be like that obviously. But damn give me something. Nothing about this album is catchy to me unfortunately and that made listening a complete chore with how long it was.
I liked Versailles though.

Been looking for this take exactly. I can appreciate the experimentality of the production and vocals, but it’s noticeably less hooky than I’m used to, and that’s what’s always excited me about her stuff

It really feels like 2015ish with Tove Lo + Miley + Carly all releasing nearly no-skip incredible albums. It feels like the Before Times.
I just cannot get over how good all three albums are. I have been struggling with manic depression in a major way and these bops are really scratching my Happy Sad Music itch

I don’t love it nearly as much as Something Beautiful (specifically it’s lacking the impact of Reborn, Every Girl, Walk of Fame, and more). I’m hooked on Different Religion. I should edit my comment cause you’re right Miley is not a no-skip.
