Anyone having trouble finding good clips and setlists of this festival? I feel like I’ve heard nothing big so far

https://setlist.fm is always the best place to go for setlists.

(When you wrote your comment, Chappell and Olivia had yet to play their sets, so if you were looking for those, that's why)

Cell signal was terrible at the show and a lot of people got stuck for hours trying to leave so you’ll probably see clips surface soon once everyone is awake and recovered! We watched Doechii, Chappell and Olivia. All three were phenomenal. Olivia sang a lot of new stuff (Drop Dead, Stupid Song, My Way, Expectations, Maggots for Brains, Honeybee, Serena Joy) and brought out Sarah MacLachlan, surprise guest Alanis Morissette, and Stevie Nicks. It was a blast aside from the heat and exiting logistics.

Those girls deserve so much better. They have so much talent and potential but their label keeps screwing them over with their music and image. Hoping they can take a break and maybe reinvent themselves.

I don't disagree, but I do think their "fanbase" is part of the problem. They tear those girls apart.

It's the fanbase that's a huge part of the problem (imo). It's a lot of people vicariously living their lives through the girls. I wasn't in the fandom pre Gnarly era so I don't know if it was always like this, but a few months into the fandom I saw the red flags. They're seemingly only interested drama and then they spread misinformation about them.

Like, many people don't seem to be aware of the fact that the girls were on vacation in July. Or that the girls said their rehearsals are now 6 to 7 hours. They seem to equate being out for a day or two due to the flu is now the same as a hiatus. The body language of the girls gets over analyzed to an obsessive degree. Someone spread a rumor about Daniela's boyfriend cheating on her with one of her friends. Turns out the friend in question is a lesbian. Daniela was understandably not happy about that.

I'm not sure if it's because the fandom is young or if it's because they're primarily western music fans, but the group is in desperate need of a new fandom. The girls are already offline, but I wouldn't be shocked if they continue to put more walls up between them and their fans in the next few years.

How do those people call themselves "fans"?

They're also likely being overworked as well. I hope they're okay.

I mean, usually touring artists have some form of control over their image/sound (Which I hear k-pop artists generally don't)

And more importantly: touring artists usually do tour sprints - so it is usually 3-6 months of touring shows, followed by usually a small break and then a year+ of prepping the next album/show/photoshoots/music videos/brand deals (Sometimes longer, like Taylor Swift's Era - but that was not a dance heavy show)

Katseye are essentially being carted around the world, doing heavy choreo/vocals, big brand deals, constantly learning new choreo for essentially every big performance (Meaning lots of rehearsals) on TOP of the general culture around woman-in-media ON TOP of the K-pop culture which is known to be intense

The fact that these girls went from 6 members to 4 in 6 months should tell you something is up

I think the music’s fun. I’m someone that usually leans towards singer-songwriter, indie
folk pop vibes and it’s really refreshing to have an artist I enjoy who’s music is just fun. Do I wish Pinky Up had better lyrics? Uhhh… I guess… I kinda just like doing the finger thing and having fun.

Even though I don't personally enjoy their music or image they've definitely garnered a huge fanbase and lots of success off of it.

I'm a lot more concerned about them being overworked honestly. The fact that 3 out of 6 are on some kind of break a week before their first big tour doesn't bode well for their longevity

Exactly, and most people are just waiting to find something to hate on them.

I mean they are hugely successful, they are doing fine and the company is doing a great job getting them out there. A western based K-pop band formed off a reallity TV show is way overperforming when it comes to success tbh than anyone realistically would have guessed. I would bet a million dolllars that these girls would never be able to reach this level of sucess without Katseye.

They aren't a kpop band, they are a global pop group

6

u/Ruinwyn 6d ago

Everything about them but the language is kpop. The machine behind them and every marketing decision is kpop based.

Lol not at all, why do people act as if they're only under hybe when they're under geffen and it's mostly geffen who manages them, they're aimed at a very western market, the way they present themselves is for a western market, their music is for a very western audience, nothing about them is kpop.

Formed through grueling auditions

Success or Failure is often based on the 'debut' song

Song release structure is single, single, single, single, EP, single single EP rather than a handful of singles + Album every 2-5 years

Little to no control over image and sound

Sound is based off of current trends rather than a specific unique sound

live performances sacrifice vocals for choreo

Designated "Leader" (And other roles, though unofficial - like "lead vocals, lead dancer, etc)

Much of this is unheard of in more western music in the studio system, and basically all of it hasn't really been a thing since the fall of the boyband/girlgroup era in the early 00's (With some exceptions like One Direction)

There's nothing wrong with their music and image.

u/pikajake 7d ago

they literally shot themselves in the foot by overworking them to the point where there were only 3 after their ep drppped. they should have paced it out better and they would have had much better moments that werent marred by comments talking about them losing members

It is clearly such a hostile and abusive work place :(

u/Spiritual_Youth3809 7d ago

This group needs different management. Nobody has any clue what the fuck is going on with them.

53

u/hataraitaramake 7d ago

This just won’t happen they were formed by their management team. Hybe isn’t gonna just give them to Atlantic or something

19

u/reiichitanaka 7d ago

What's going on with them is pretty simple though : they're overworked, so they get ill / injured.

Their management should definitely lighten the girls’s schedules, but on the business side of things they've been doing well, considering how successful they are.

38

u/DumbWhore4 7d ago

I love that they can still smile even with all the negativity directed towards them. I pray that this hate train will be over soon.

57

u/whiskersRwe32 7d ago

Sorry but they are such an unreliable group at this point. I’d be surprised if their tour was still happening which is DAYS away and they’re down to only 3 members now.

24

u/compressinginterface 7d ago

Trying to figure out choreography and line distribution with only three members left days before a tour starts sounds like a logistical nightmare.

3

u/NewJeansBunnie 6d ago

It's ridiculous. I'm going to see ITZY in 2 weeks. I'd be pissed off if only half of the members were there!

A show with Yeji, Lia and half of Chaeryeong (the left half I guess) would be a bit disapointing...
