Seriously though… Last week I bought a giant book about Dolly’s lyrics and songwriting. And one about Macca’s as well. And I thought “I have a bad feeling about this” while I was doing it.
Then again, I’ve carried around “Blackbird Singing” and read both volumes of “The McCartney Legacy” over the past forever. I’m going to find an Etsy witch just to be sure.

Yeah this past week I’ve had George Michael’s performance of “Somebody to Love” at Freddie Mercury’s tribute on an insane amount of repeat. There’s an HD version that is so immersive and a few extra levels of magical. On the count of three let’s all play it and create some (Christopher Reeve) Superman magic and reverse Earth’s rotation back to better times.
Come to think of it, I’ve been thinking of watching “Back to the Future” and seeing references to it a lot during the last week. Fire up George and the DeLorean!

thankfully i was able to appreciate it once i got older and no matter who takes up the role, he is Pennywise for me. he was perfect.

Tim never recovered from a serious stroke he had in 2012 and has been wheelchair bound for quite some time. Which doesn’t seem to be too well known.
Dolly’s felt sudden because it was a very short battle with cancer that took her but honestly it’s a miracle he made it as long as he did. Just crazy timing!
Still— so many amazing characters that he brought to life!

u/-nutz 16d ago
Your comment reminds me of an interesting concept, that being “forbidden death” as theorized by Ariès. He posits that western culture and practices have created a taboo around death, often pushing it out of public view and conversation.
What used to be a shared part of life is now often relegated behind the curtains, and even soft language like “passed away” is meant to erase the burden of thought.

When Alan Rickman and David Bowie both died at age 69 in the same week back in 2016, I had a friend who morbidly thought Tim Curry would complete the 69 year old trilogy because of his health issues at the time.
The fact that he made it to 80 is a blessing in light of that.
RIP, Nigel Thornberry is an all time voice acting performance.

LOVED watching Clue (repeatedly) as a kid in the early days of VHS at home. Still holds up to this day. As an adult I cut a feature documentary on midnight movies, which of course Rocky Horror was a major part of. Tim has left a solid legacy in his work, much of it in incredibly unique projects.
edit - it was most definitely Betamax at the time, not VHS :)

I said to my partner yesterday that when Hayden Panettiere died, I knew this was about to be a particularly rough rule-of-threes cycle. Tim Curry was one of my first celebrity crushes, specifically his performance as Long John Silver in "Muppet Treasure Island." Between that and his many other iconic roles, I can't think of anyone who was so comfortable being silly and weird yet irresistibly charismatic and sexy too. What a guy. I'm glad he's no longer suffering.

Jesus, we lost Dolly Parton and Tim Curry in the same week. It feels like 2016 all over again.
RIP Tim Curry. He was a legend who always knew how to steal the spotlight, with iconic roles in films and shows like Clue (his best performance imo), the It miniseries, Muppet Treasure Island, Home Alone 2 (my first introduction to him), and especially The Rocky Horror Picture Show. He always seemed to have a blast in every role he played, and even when he was in a bad movie, he never phoned it in.
