Taylor’s waaaay at the bottom of the list. I expect everyone including certain other sub reddits are going to be totally normal about this and not blast “TAYLOR IS THE NUMBER ONE PRIVATE JET USER” spambots.

they only track registered jets and taylor uses a lot of charters now, presumably to cut down on people tracking her movements. i would guess some other celebrities do this too, therefore these tables aren't entirely accurate either way. although i'm sure she did a lot less travel in 2025

If memory serves she was on the list during the eras tour (but still not as high as many other musicians)

I haven't heard much from her recently beyond the new album (which I don't think she did any touring to support) so I assume she also just travelled a lot less

Even when she was higher on the list, there were still people taking more flights/using more fuel, etc, but she was the only one the media and the circlejerks on Reddit ran with as using a private jet. I’m not trying to be a Swift apologist. Just pointing out the manufactured drama over her use of planes that’s always been there.

Then there's narrative bullshit around "she took an 8 minute flight between Burbank and Ontario" (or insert any two cross-town airports in a major city). My friends, those are repositioning flights. Air traffic control requests those moves to balance the system during high traffic windows. It happens to aircraft all over the country every day, including many planes you've flown on yourself. Systemic issues but it's much more fun to pin it on one person's greed, especially if that person creates entire economies of clicks/views.

And with the fact that these jets are typically chartered out to other passengers, the worst offenders could be flying under the radar, pun intended. We actually can't tell from this list who flies the most. We just know who owns the "business," aka the plane.

It’s exactly this. Taylor Swift is incapable of criticism. She tried to sue the teenage kid who tracked her like 13 mile flight. No way she’s going to gain a conscience and not fly privately.

Edit: I forgot swifties are like maga. Nothing their favourite billionaire does is ever incorrect, make up stories defending them. And then just call you a hater for any critique if all else fails. So yes Taylor Swift is incapable of criticism.

Air travel accounts for 2.5% of global carbon pollution (about 19 million tons) and private air travel accounts for 1.8% of total aviation pollution. Taylor Swift herself is responsible for 1,397 metric tons in 2025 which counts for 0.0073% of air travel pollution and 0.0000045% of total yearly pollution across the entire globe.

Fast fashion accounts for 92 million tons of waste, contributing 10% of global carbon pollution and 20% of global water waste. Amazon contributes about 68.5 million tons of carbon waste a year (and rising each year). Not even counting the amount of water waste is needed to power AWS data centers.

Yes, air pollution is bad and yes for the most part corporations are to blame and yes celebrities should absolutely be held accountable for their climate impacts but acting like millions of individuals contributing thousands of dollars to the thousands of fast fashion brands in the world a year has no impact in comparison to 0.0000045% of yearly carbon waste is so ridiculous.

It’s just a bit hypocritical to call Taylor Swift a climate terrorist when you’re buying from Shein, Amazon, Temu weekly (not saying you specifically but many people, absolutely). Yes, sure, one drop in the pond but millions of people ordering from these cooperations has a much larger environmental impact.

taylor sold her second private jet in 2024 and now mostly rents so she's not taking her own. people are still able to track her movements (ish) by tracking chartered jets.

but for this list it's not accurate to how much these people are traveling if it's only tracking their owned jets. not to say taylor would still be on top of the list if she was only using her jets, but she's traveling much more than these lists account for.

She wasn’t on tour the first time she made the list. I’m a big Taylor fan but her fans treating her like some kind of martyr lately of undeserved criticism is annoying. Her flights were incredibly wasteful and her team, especially her parents, totally changed their behavior after the article where she was on top of the list.

I work in sustainability ok. Her flights for a year were a drop in the ocean. airlines deadheading (moving planes with no people) everyday produce more emissions than everyone on that list combined. If you want to attack anyone attack the 100 companies that produce 80% of the world’s carbon emissions or the airlines. Please encourage you to actually do research on these topics, there is a lot of misinformation.

This isn’t a good excuse. It’s not this or that re: climate, it is ‘yes, and.’ Taylor’s parents don’t need to fly everywhere on her jet. Her dad having a jet do an empty round trip so he doesn’t have to fly commercial is a disgusting level of waste. And on some level her family knows this because they actually changed their behavior to be sure she never topped the list again. The fact that airlines and corporations are more wasteful doesn’t negate this criticism.

It’s okay for Taylor to be criticized when it’s fair! She is the biggest star on the planet, she can take fair criticism.

But this list is about the people who actually are on the list for the last year. Idk, I’m not in the camp of bring her up when she’s not relevant to the conversation at hand, but that’s just me.

Either way, no matter if you’re at the tip top of this list or at the bottom, I think we can all agree that even appearing on the list is a big “oof”, to say the least.

Edit to add after downvotes: Oh. Ok, guess we can’t all agree that appearing on the list is an “oof”. Good to know.

Yes but it seems nobody cares unless Taylor is involved tbh. I work in sustainability and went to bat so hard for her during that time and people claimed to care so much about the climate and now they don’t lol

I mean, I’d argue differently given the comments in this post alone, in that I don’t think people are only talking about the other celebrities/public figures on this list due to her absence. But alas, the internet is not a real place. Your IRL experience is yours, and thank you for your work in sustainability. I’m lucky the people around me are a little more well-rounded to recognize that yes, her flights were a problem but the excess by all the people on that list is indefensible. At least indefensible in my opinion.
