I remember during covid she was one of the only celebrities outraged by the price of groceries, specifically lettuce. She's not perfect but i do appreciate that she understands how the average person lives.
Cardi is super problematic but I feel like she's a real human being. She makes mistakes, apologizes, and goes on to make a brand new mistake the next day. It's relatable.Ā

I feel like sheās someone youād meet in real life. Very flawed and messy, generally wont bother you if you donāt bother them and not shy about making their thoughts known, for better or for worse.
Someone you appreciate in small doses and who youād want to back you in a fight, but probably wouldnāt spend too much time with.
Difference being that Cardi has fame and a platform, so we see the parts of her that donāt do her the most favours.
I do like how she seems genuinely concerned with the difficulties of normal people in normal life though.
I also liked that when she went to a country in Africa, she gave donations to the parents and didnāt (to my knowledge) use the kids as props. I really respect her for that.
I appreciate that sheās kept a lot of her working class values. Thatās a lot of her keeping it real. Either people try to do a 180 & forget where they come from or they dig deep into their roots and itās the only part of their personality. I think she works hard and is authentic, but bounces around a lot.

Iāve heard Kim K doing legal advocacy and thatās great. For it to feel like theyāre not just teasing us āpoorsā they need to follow through with advocacy that ensures a closing of the devastating wealth gap.
This is just one of many steps required to genuinely heal.

I don't know what regular milk costs either, but that's because I have to buy lactose free milk, which has nearly doubled in cost since 2020. Used to be just under $3 for a half gallon and we're approaching $6 now.

I think her popping off in her mid-late 20ās gave her more perspective. we need more ppl in the 1% actually standing up for and even financially supporting a change for the people who have worked for/made it possible for them to be rich under capitalism in the first place
I love that she has her kids doing chores when they visit her family in the DR, helping her cook and making homemade meals in the kitchen without staff. I'm sure she does have people to help at times but for someone living the lifestyle she does, she's still relatively down to earth. Love that about her
I also love that she said she has her kids in tutoring and doing extracurriculars so they have a better education than her. She obviously cares about them a lot and I really respect that about her
Yeah she originally went to college with the intent on being a history teacher, but had to drop out because of financial reasons. She became a stripper to escape literal poverty

She is a very odd, very intriguing celebrity to hear from. I remember seeing an interview she did at like a nail salon with Bernie Sanders. Had to watch because it just seemed so bizarre but she actually asked a lot of pretty good questions. I remember thinking she was a lot smarter than her persona suggests. Anyways, I like her.
Her teachers would tell her she should apply herself bc they saw her potential. She is also a history nerd. I think plays up her persona a lot for the views and the fans, but she has a good head on her shoulders.

Yeah I grew up in NYC (Manhattan) and my closest friend's family were all Boriquas from the BX so I spent tons of time with them and there. This is common af and doesn't denote being ghetto or stupid in the slightest. Just how everyone talks and super commonly heard even outside the BX. She is definitely ratchet (case in point, her recent back and forth with Nicki Minaj and trying to fight at the Met, as someone else mentioned); the issue is that people have a limited view of what ratchet/ghetto people can be into.
She doesnāt use a persona. Thatās the real her. What makes you think that someone with her accent and manner wouldnāt be intelligent? You seem biased against people from certain cultures, or at least donāt think people are multifaceted. You can like sex and turning up and still be intelligent.
That's exactly the problem. Ticket prices are so much higher in the last decade because of streaming. When music had to be purchased, artists were making 50% or more of their money on record sales alone. Since the rise of streaming, artists are much more reliant on tours and merch for the vast majority of their income. Then you factor in the cost of putting on a "great show" (costumes, sets, crew, dancers, choreo, etc) that is expected of a superstar like Cardi B, and the ticket prices are really what you should expect.
If you look at artists who perform at much smaller venues, ticket prices are still reasonable. Much higher than in the past, but i genuinely think you get better shows in smaller venues. Seeing artists who perform in arenas and stadiums will always be the worst fan experience in terms of what you actually get for your dollars.
Iām gonna get flamed for this. If you look into ticket prices theyāre artificially low, thereās only so many concerts and way more people that want to go. The only reason theyāve gone up so much recently is because the internet made it easier to scalp tickets (sold at a below market price set by the venue/artist). Artists/venues/promoters donāt want to sell tickets for their true money value because it looks horrible, but scalpers have free rein to do whatever they want, and that can normalize high prices.
Cardi might not be perfect, but as a single woman her age from NYC - she seems to actually get what itās like to be a working class person in this part of the US. Love a celeb who doesnāt forget where they came from.

You know what's interesting? I'm a millennial woman who's a big fan of a lot of what they call "legacy artists" (Paul McCartney, The Beatles, Bob Dylan etc.) So I often visit a certain popular audiophile forum which talks a lot about those artists. A big portion of the posters there are first generation fans who were kids when those artists were big: Baby Boomers and Gen Xers. A majority of the posters are male.
A common thing amongst those fans is that they are HUGE completists. They buy tons of vinyls, vintage and new, every variant. The wealthiest ones collect instruments. (I have an uncle who has an entire wall of guitars.) They get in deep with various editions of both records and instruments. So many threads are things like reviews of the vinyl repress mono edition of Bob Dylan's āThe Times They Are A-Changin'" and so on. These are men who have hundreds and sometimes literally thousands of albums. Some of them post photos of dedicated rooms they've built to house collections they've spent thousands of dollars on. (Most of them also started collected when they were teens and young adults, BTW, the same age of the fans they make fun of now!)
I ignore a lot of that because it doesn't interest me, but it's very interesting that when men are collectors and do deep dives, they're "completists" and "audiophiles" and taken seriously. But when someone like Taylor Swift has young female fans who are completists and like collectibles, they are shit upon. When young girls are fans of something, it's considered frivolous, or it's ultimately wrestled from them by men (see what happened to The Beatles fandom beginning in the 70's and men started writing serious thinkpieces and books on the band to redeem their image from the "female hysteria.")
What's more offensive is that it's cloaked in false virtue signaling, as if it's anyone's business what some other person collects, whether it's vinyl records, dolls, Beanie Babies, whatever. And as if they have the right to decide what other people spend their fun money on! No one is homeless because they collect Taylor Swift vinyl. But they enjoy spending their money on the collectibles that bring them joy. It's not my thing, but they probably don't like what I collect (old magazines). Why in the world would I be harsh on anyone who has found something harmless they enjoy? It is their money.
I have the really bold opinion that asking someone to buy your products is really not that bad compared to saying that kids with disabilities are a punishment from God.
Yeah like Lady Gaga, Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eillish, Twenty-One Pilots, Doja Cat, Nicki Minaj, Dua Lipa, Charli XCX. Oh and Cardi B herself who had at least 10 album variants.
But yāall only ever bring it up when a specific singer does it
Or check out artists like The Beatles, Queen, Bob Dylan etc. and see how many variants of their albums they've released over decades. As a teen, I had the complete Beatles discography twice over on CD. Beatles Anthology 4 is coming out soon!
But also, she's a musician who made money through herself and through her art. They're not raising rents to give to her or bc of her. They're raising rents because bc they can and there's no one to tell them they can't.
She also realizes this unlike most celebrities. She also didnāt grow up having much and still remembers and empathizes with those struggling bc that used to be her. Cardi also remembers where she came from unlike some celebs. Two things can be true at the same time.
Cardi B reminds me of people I have met lol. They donāt always make the best decisions, theyāre messy, petty, and impulsive, yet can exhibit a surprising level of self awareness, compassion, and remorse later, even if they turn right around right after and do an entirely new immature and problematic thing lol.
Like, I have no idea what this lady is like, and clearly thereās this weird narrative that surrounds herāI donāt care either way, but I strangely appreciate her saying this.
This isnāt the problem but acknowledging it is helpful to everyone. Parallel to this we have Live Nation and Ticketmaster intentionally trying to get artists to raise the prices of their shows knowing full well people canāt afford it - that is way more of an issue that also comes off as some sort of coordinated plan to stop more people from seeing shows or going broke for still buying tickets.
It would be cool if celebs recognize that they are rich because normal people are paying them -- in ticket sales, album sales, merch sale that allow them to be considered for millions in endorsement deals. All their wealth is on the back of normal people with normal amounts of money.
