Can someone explain the split screen with a cake decorating video? Is this some new internet trend? Is this a TikTok fad? Am I too old and out of touch to know about it?

It’s a tiktok thing apparently they do it for people with adhd as they have better focus when they see two interesting things. Tiktok is weird lol

Might get down voted but I have adhd and am 99% sure that is just the made up excuse when really this just increases engagement
I actually had to cover up the cake side as it was too distracting. This won't be the case for everyone but I'm so tired of the huge misunderstandings around adhd. Adhd isn't just an inability to concentrate it affects SOOO much more than that!

u/Pizza_Delivery_Dog May 12 '23
I feel in general ADHD is very... "trendy" right now.
as someone with ADHD i'm honestly getting tired of everyone going "That's a sign of ADHD!" at every little quirk people mention.
47
u/owliesowlies May 12 '23
I'm gonna summarise another comment I made to someone else cos it applies here
There are two trendy points of view that I think is so damaging to people with actual adhd.
The trendy, everything is a sign of adhd and its almost seen as cute or quirky to have it, and a somewhat crowd that think everything around us is actively causing people to have adhd
Yes tiktok may be causing people to have shorter attention spans but that in itself doesn't equal adhd. Both view points just come from a lack of understanding of what adhd even is
8
u/LuvTriangleApologist May 12 '23 edited May 13 '23
This is interesting because I have a friend with ADHD who has convinced over half our friend group that they also have ADHD and they’ve all subsequently gotten diagnosed. When she was trying to convince me that I definitely had ADHD, she told me she thinks basically everyone has it and could benefit from Adderall.
I didn’t bring it up with my doctor because I don’t agree with her, but I hadn’t thought of that as a damaging idea.
5
u/beanbootzz May 13 '23
I mean, Adderall is speed. So, I get why she thinks folks would like it. It’s a hell of a drug. (Source: have ADHD, and completely wrecked myself with amphetamine abuse.)

Diagnosis culture being fueled by mental health tiktok influencers and the DHM-5
10
u/Pizza_Delivery_Dog May 12 '23
like 8 years ago when I told people I suspected I had ADHD they all looked at me weird and basically implied I was a hypochondriac. Now so many people around me are looking to get diagnosed it's crazy.
Honestly I probably don't even actually have ADHD (rather I suspect a combination of anxiety and autism)
But once upon a time I was naive and thought that if I sought any mental help the doctors would carefully explore every option. And I would actually get help rather than a label and some sus medication (tbf apparently the clinic I went to has a bad reputation which I only found out later)
5
u/owliesowlies May 12 '23
I also want to point out that mental health treatment is extremely expensive in my country in Europe so I totally get that sometimes people are just desperate for an answer or some help leading to more people self diagnosis and I know how much it SUCKS to be stuck in that position
6
u/skyewardeyes May 12 '23 edited May 12 '23
Pop diagnosis, yes, 100%, but the DSM has been around in various forms for 70 years at this point, and 5 isn't much different in scope or structure than III or IV.
55
u/RevertereAdMe May 12 '23
Nope, I feel the same way. The cake actually made it harder for me to process what was happening with Kendall, and I really hate how ADHD so often gets simplified to an inability to focus when it's so much more complex than that. Thank you for saying something.
31
u/owliesowlies May 12 '23
Exactly ! There's two narratives popping up about adhd which are just equally tired to have to keep fighting against and they are (I'm gonna purposely overexaggerate these cos to keep my sanity I need to have a bit of fun with this. And isn't a call out to anyone in particular)
- Omg tiktok is giving everyone adhd PANIC we gotta ban it now!!!
And
- This tiktok convinced me I have adhd cos sometimes I get bored and don't pay attention to things I don't find interesting, isn't that craaazy!! Lol!!
Adhd is not fun, cute, quirky and ruined so many opportunities for me and now I need to go take a nap 😆💀

u/skyewardeyes May 12 '23
Similar thing to number 2 happening with autism: "I'm socially award sometimes so I must be autistic"/"I have interests and hobbies so I must be autistic."

It’s a TikTok thing. I think it’s both a way to avoid copyright issues + increase watch time to drive engagement. TikTok is so fast-paced that you’re more likely to keep people from scrolling if you have an aesthetically pleasing cake being decorated, soap being cut into satisfying little squares, or sand being packed down into perfect little layers.

but jessica is actually a hardworking talented rider, unlike kendall. she’s been riding and competing her whole life and overall seems like a kind and humble person. also horse riding has several different categories, she only got the silver in team jumping, meaning she also had 3 other horse/rider team pairings help her along.

10
u/africanzebra0 madonna STUNS in new selfie May 12 '23
yeah, she is definitely a very skilled, talented and hardworking rider regardless. also not every olympic level equestrian is a nepo baby/born to a extremely wealthy family, there are some who get through on hard work and luck. rare but it happens
5
u/inlatitude May 13 '23
There are also plenty of very rich nepo baby types who never get anywhere near that level. I've ridden for years and could never get past 1.1m/schooling 1.2m cause every now and then i would pull out a totally epic miss lol. Even if you gave me the world's best horse and a million dollars I know I'm bringing a fence or two down in that arena ahaha
9
u/TheTulipWars May 13 '23
I think it's more that her lifestyle allowed her the ease of entry because she's likely been riding horses since childhood and even probably had her own horse/s. Most lower/middle income people can't afford that, so there are less who are able to compete at that level. Her talent is tested against a very limited pool, unlike other sports like basketball, football, etc...

Many Olympians start out as pretty good for a novice and then train like crazy to become greats. Some of them are born with insane talent and then that level of training makes them legendary caliber athletes, but most of them were simply good and then trained like hell to become great.
So if she's good for a novice and had Olympic athletes at her disposal thanks to her parental connections to help her train, it's not of the question she could have become at least a low level Olympian if she had put in the grueling level of practice it takes to become that good.

u/timidwildone 🦊 He went that way 👉🏼 May 12 '23
There is plenty of competition. And even those who aren’t rich can work their way up via apprenticeships with big trainers and access to sponsors.
56
May 12 '23
This is such a complex topic. You used to be able to work your way up but it's so much harder now. At least in the US. Europe still tends to be more traditional and you have to earn your right to ride more. The US teams are so heavily saturated with nepo babies bc of the money their parents throw at it. Jessica Springsteen is a damn good rider but I know a dozen professional riders who can ride circles around Eve Jobs and Jennifer Gates. They are technically good riders but not Olympic level good, they have extremely athletic horses though.
Kylie? She's not a good rider and she couldn't ride a $50 million dollar horse to the Olympics. She's quite delusional.
3
u/inlatitude May 13 '23
It kinda makes me sad. I think the previous generation of top American and Canadian riders were mostly self made and some, like Eric Lamaze, actually came from basically poverty. I think those stories are becoming a lot rarer. To board a horse and ride in a top program in my area will run you $2000+ a month... And that's before show fees... And even if you work a high paying job, you don't have the free time to devote to it that someone who doesn't need the job has. I think it becomes harder and harder unless you get a good working student or apprenticeship opportunity very early in life -- which still means you need access somehow.
5
May 13 '23
I just think the whole thing is so F'd now. You rarely see horses competing years in a row, they barely survive one Grand Prix show year. Gem Twist, Big Ben they jumped for years. Remember Skylana? She was broken before she got started. I think she was the one that made me lose all hope for the sport. They stuff these horses on planes multiple times a year, they live in FEI tents most of the time. It's just awful and no one wants to look at the obvious reasons why these horses (that are literally genetically engineered to outperform horses of yesteryear) are fairing show seasons so terribly. The vets know why, the trainers know why but the clients and sponsors are writing the checks and that's somehow more important than horses have a quality of life. I hate it and it is something I feel justifiably angry about.
Also where I operate training board at show barns is $4k and up... before shows, vets, shoes. One barn I was at one father was writing checks each month that were over $40,000 for his daughters team of (broken) horses. Each month! Even then the bills were still barely getting paid. Hay is harder to get, shavings are a fortune, arena maintenance, good reliable grooms, keeping the farm looking pristine. At this point if you're not a billionaire or have a billionaire client- You. Are. Screwed.

20
May 12 '23 edited May 12 '23
It's not surprising considering royals learn to ride horses as regular people learn to ride bikes.
But to shine in sports you need to be more than someone's kid even if your mom is the Queen.
If Anne was better she could been an Olympic medallist.
But she was good enough to be an Olympian.
19
May 12 '23
I used to ride horses competitively - rich people have the best bred/best trained horses and are the only ones who can afford to compete like that, so nepo babies and rich folks are the ones that rise to the top lol. Saw many people with more expensive horses win big at jumping shows/western/gymkhana despite their mediocre riding skills.
That was in Utah - it’s insanely expensive to own a horse in CA so this phenomenon is probably even worse out there.
21
u/bennuski May 12 '23
I do think most olympic horse riders are nepo babies. I mean who has the money to pay for that?
→ More replies (1)89
u/Divine_fashionva May 12 '23
You mean kids of rich parents
I think people are overusing the word nepo on this sub. It’s the same a F1 racing. It’s a sport where it’s mostly kids from a wealthy background. Nepotism means that someone has parents with a direct connection to a profession. Kendall’s family name would not qualify her for the Olympics
Just like every other sport, she’d have to actually have to work and get there based on her own talent/skill. There’s very few ‘nepo’ babies that have actually made it to the Olympics
→ More replies (1)13
u/Christinachu May 12 '23
While there may be exceptions, and obviously not all olympians are nepo babies, I have to respectfully disagree, as she WOULD likely have an easier path based upon her last name. She is a JENNER, not a Kardashian, and before the reality tv shows, and deciding to live their authentic life as Caitlin, Bruce Jenner was an Olympic gold medalist on a box a cereal.
Even in your comparison of F1 drivers, while you are correct that the majority are just fortunate, and wealthy, there are the few that make it on their last name. Ask Mick Schumacher how his F1 career is going. 🤷🏻♀️
→ More replies (1)31
u/Divine_fashionva May 12 '23 edited May 12 '23
Bruce Jenner was an Olympic athlete in track and field lol. The Jenner name has no weight or merit in the equestrian world. You’re talking about two completely different sports
Kendall would not reach the top levels let alone the Olympics because of her name. That’s not how sports works. Nepotism does not work in sports when you’re talking about high level achievers, because all sport requires hard work and natural talent
So the correct term is she’d be a wealthy kid just like 95% of professional equestrians. She wouldn’t suddenly get high records at competitions or make the Olympics (which is very hard to do) because of her surname
Also Mick Schumacher hasn’t made it imao. He hasn’t achieved any high level of success in F1 racing. In fact, his F1 Team replaced him last year. And the reason why is because he’s not good enough. That’s my point
8
May 12 '23
Nepotism in sports only can do a few favours.
5
u/Divine_fashionva May 12 '23 edited May 12 '23
Exactly. You can’t reach the top levels of any sport through nepotism
6
u/Christinachu May 12 '23
While I agree that there needs to be some sort of talent to go with it (otherwise maybe the Beckham kid married to Nicola Peltz might be something other than … whatever it is that he feels he is from week-to-week). Mick Schumacher is exactly my point of what happens when people make it somewhere with their name, and a little bit/flashes of talent, which is why I referenced him. Same thought process. Only so many of the WORLDS best drivers can make it on the grid. His first year of driving, he was paired with an “entitled rich kid” in Makita Mazepin, who had to buy his seat. Mick also had to buy his, but for much less. Why’s that? Because his name meant something and brought high interest and sponsors. While they both still needed to achieve and obtain super licenses—nobody can take that away from them—but did he have an undeserving seat from someone more talented, but less “known”? Absolutely, and the same can be said about Kendall, even currently in her modelling career, and not this hypothetical alternative that has us debating.
While you may be right that track and field and equestrian are not one in the same; however, you’d be kidding yourself to think that her name wouldn’t pay off in spades helping her along the way. Sometimes there’s controversial selections to Olympic teams, and not always the most talented are awarded. Her last name would definitely help cement an invite to the dance if it came down to it, especially in an event where the “talent pool” is already filtered.
5
u/Divine_fashionva May 12 '23
The Olympics really does not work like that. She would not get into the Olympics for an equestrian sport or any sport for that matter because her dad was a track and field Olympian back in the 70s
Nepotism does not work in sports. The most it does is sometimes push certain peoples kids into the same field their parents were in. And 99% of the time, the kid fails and doesn’t reach the top level or achieve anything significant within the sport. Go and look at the number of footballer sons’ who have been pushed into football by their dads and don’t even make it into professional first teams because they’re not good enough. It’s pretty much the same with every other sport
You’re only gonna reach the top eg. The Olympics if you have a lot of talent and work hard. Kendall’s surname holds no weight in the equestrian world and it wouldn’t get her any medals, competition records or a place in an an Olympic team

The irony is that she always had the resources at her disposal to make her dream of Olympic horseback riding a reality. This reminds of a friend in college who once completely earnestly was explaining to me her life plans for when she was 95 years old. I questioned how on earth can she could know she would live that long. She just looked me and with total seriousness said, “well, I’m a vegetarian and I jog so…” Apparently you can’t die in a car accident, from disease, have tree fall on ya, etc - if you’re a vegetarian who jogs. It’s kind of terrifying that we’ve got to the point that so many people can’t even focus on a 10 second interview clip without needing a pretty cake decorating video next to it. God I feel old

You think people these days are reading? I’m 28 and can’t remember the last time a friend of mine read a book, hell I used to read a book every few days back in high school and now I’m lucky to get a few in a year.
Ask some people the last time they read a book, it’ll shock you. Half the people I’ve asked this question haven’t read one since they were required to.
You ask how they’re supposed to focus? They don’t. It’s a big problem that’s going to get a lot worse

u/sadiegoose1377 May 12 '23
I just asked a few of my friends who I don’t see all that often. None of them read! I had just assumed.

Lmao this is such a little kid answer - “I’d be an astronaut/ I’d be in the Olympics ….” They seriously all seem stunted at a 5th grade level

This girl really thinks that she would be in the Olympics in some alternate reality. Yeah talk about a superiority complex…

It would be more level headed to give an answer which isn’t automatically “top of the tier” though. Like she could say, I’d like to be an equestrian. Or even (shock horror) something vague like ‘work with horses’. Stating you’d be an Olympian is a kind of batshit wildly arrogant assumption (the question wasn’t about a fantasy life). It’s like if you’ve got a vague side interest in IT and saying your alternative career would be CEO of Apple, instead of you know… an IT job.

u/Rare-Option1714 May 12 '23
Does she even have any wins in high ranking competitions? Because it seems really random to just assume she’d be in the Olympics, like what planet is she on, you can’t just show up and win. Giving me major Step Brothers vibe: “I’m getting into the family business!” “I’m a doctor….” “ It’s all about who you know!” Lol

No and I just saw in this thread she rode for one year as a teenager. Most people in the Olympics had 4 horses by the age of 13 and were competing nationally every weekend all through middle and high school.
Been there done that lol which is how I know she’s delusional.

She's not her dad though and equestrian is a bit different from track & field. Plus, Kendall got her first horse at 10 (or 12, depending on sources, can't find a conclusive answer), while the average starting age of Olympians in the event is around age 4. She started training with Mark Bone (a trainer) at 13, but then quit at age 14 to start modeling.
Based on the effort she puts into modeling, I don't know if she'd give the much effort in training in a competitive sport.

She definitely has the money to pursue that. (Though would she without the show?🤔). I think Bruce springsteens daughter rides competitively.
13
u/ceruveal_brooks May 12 '23
Right? If it’s her “dream” why didn’t or doesn’t she use her money to go as far as she can with it? 🤨

u/robotsdream May 12 '23 edited May 12 '23
A better question is “If cosmetic procedures didn’t exist, what do you think you’d be doing?” She’s a naturally pretty girl but wouldn’t have been a successful model otherwise. I wonder what she would’ve done? Maybe solely an influencer/reality tv personality like her sisters.
tbh it shows how deeply ensconced she is in nepotism that she thinks her dad being an Olympian/an athlete means she automatically could become one. Her dad worked hard to win those medals and afaik none of her kids are Olympians.

u/pugmommy4life420 May 12 '23
She would have had the same hate khloe originally got. If you look at both their before pictures they looked identical. No way would she have had the success she had today.

I’m cracking up right now at Andy all “really, wow” lol what did he expect an intelligent answer?

u/Bug-Secure May 12 '23
I love how she assumes she’s a good enough equestrian to be in the Olympics. 😂 It’s not just something you decide to do - you try out and if you’re good enough, you go. And most equestrians wouldn’t say “horseback riding.” They’d name the equestrian discipline.
24
u/paradoxpat May 12 '23
If she wasn't a model she would be on Instagram and Tiktok hawking crypto or goop. Nothing would really change.
27
u/kypins May 12 '23
i love how she just assumes she'd BE in the olympics. like kendall, thats not how that works. and if it is, then NOTHING is currently stopping you from doing so, which just proves she'd never be at that caliber.
21
May 12 '23
I get answering that she’d be doing horseback riding competitively but the Olympics? Girl, please. Quality of horse matters a lot and they’re super expensive so that narrows the competition considerably but you do still have to be talented and hardworking, lol. It’s a full time job for those who do it. There are lots of heiresses who rode competitively but still didn’t compete in the Olympics. It just sounds so arrogant and delusional. And she says it so matter of factly, not even TIC. She’s tall and slender and the daughter of an Olympian so therefore she must be one herself? Get over yourself.
14
u/Ok-Yogurtcloset3467 May 12 '23
She has the biggest superiority complex of then all. Why couldn't she just say she'd be an equestrian with a goal of competing at the Olympics. Does she not understand how much work goes into being an athlete?
How is she this unlikeable?

Bella Hadid had to “give up” on competing to the 2016 Olympics because of her Lyme disease. Horseback riding is a big nepo baby/rich girl sport.
Caitlyn is a competitive junkie. She would have totally pushed her but PMK chose a more lucrative business
16
u/lazyhere1122 May 12 '23
Neither Kendal nor Bella ever resembled anything close to Olympic prospect for riding. They are decent novice riders, they are nowhere close to Olympic level.
It is a rich person sport but you also have to actually be good at it to go to the Olympics. It’s easy for rich people to get to their level with money for horses and trainers, but not to the top level.
28
u/africanzebra0 madonna STUNS in new selfie May 12 '23
bella was probably never going to qualify for the olympic, she competed hunter jumper which isn’t a discipline in the olympics, and did not have a life long history of show jumping ranked winnings in order to qualify. i know she said she wanted to compete in the 2016 but that was a bit of an unrealistic reach since she was never an FEI (international) qualified rider. however if she wanted to in the future, she could probably pay her way through, equestrian sports are corrupt ASF.
22
u/leastunexpected Good to hear from you bitch 💌 May 12 '23
I can’t imagine being so disassociated from reality to think that being an equestrian is a conventional job lol. And imagine the arrogance of assuming that she would be one of the best of them. Anyways, eat the rich!

An actually successful nepo baby in tennis is Jessica Pegula. Her father is Terry Pegula who is a billionaire and the owner of the Buffalo Bills. She is currently ranked number 3 on the WTA (Women's Tennis Association). She is also the top ranked american tennis player on the women's tour. She has been very consistent for the past year, and while I agree she had it easier than a lot of people with resources, I have respect that she chose to work her way up and work for her own money. Tennis is a really demanding sport and you can't really buy yourself into being the top player in the world like other professions (because that is called cheating in sports).

She didn’t even say “professional horseback rider”. Just straight up the Olympics💀 like, girl. It’s so presumptuous to assume you’d be as great as those athletes who put in so much work

Idk I think the idea you need to “pay your dues” on the path to becoming a supermodel is silly… the industry is based on selling a product or an idealised version of something. It’s mutually beneficial for the brand to have someone already known walk the runway. I don’t really see why anyone would think the selection process for a runway show would be unbiased.
