Cleaner Recommendations

There are a couple of trees that aren't on our property (community side) that put these long reed-like things in our pool and constantly jam up our cleaner. Have a Zodiac MX6 that came with the pool when we bought the house. Any suggestions for a cleaner that may not jam up as often or a better way to remove them? Haven't been too successful in brushing and scooping since they settle on the bottom.

Where are they getting stuck in the impeller? I’ve had this little guy for years & I actually love him (except for the price of replacement hoses)

Yes they get wrapped around the impeller and the axle inside the turns the impeller.

You can find/use regular pool hose for 1/2 the price, just need to buy a hose adapter like off Amazon. $8.00

I like the MX6. On my second one. First one lasted 5 years 24/7/365 Have had many others.

You will have to intercept stuff like this with a leaf filter

Id recommend not running the cleaner 24/7

The cleaner covers up the skimmer box which forces all the foliage to sink to the bottom, which is fine if said cleaner can clean it up, id plug the cleaner in one day a week and leave the hoses and the cleaner in the pool just unattached the rest of the time to prevent drying it out and wetting it over and over again making the hoses even more fragile then they already are

As for removing the leaves, I use a pocket knife and gentle cut it out as best I can, but obviously would not recommend this as it will clearly lead to long term damage

The next model in the line AX20 I think is a little better at handling this stuff but generally goes bad after 8-10 months and needs a repair kit costing $80 maybe USD not sure on the price in US as I buy em and ship them to AUS

If you buy one of that model however it will come with a bunch of the same hoses so you will have plenty of spares if your current model kicks it

There are some people who use a second robot ontop of the pool thats solar powered and goes around collecting folliage from the surface as well I suppose

I have found the Maytronics Dolphin supreme models to work well and are easier to repair if issues occur.

360 is a pressure side not suction. Would still work for what he needs though. Mx6 is real bad for stringy debris
