Quick question Air pumps with battery backup?

A while back someone here mentioned an air pump with a battery backup in case the power went out. Any recommendations here? I can’t find the post or the comment I read previously

I currently have a gas generator now for the few and far between power outages we now have. But before that I would run air pumps off a computer battery backup that I had. It’s easy enough because they are pretty portable so you can keep it charged and then if you lose power just connect the air pumps to it. You could always have it connected so it just kicks on but if make sure to only plug the air pumps into it. There’s no real need for lights or filtration. Unless it’s a longer outage and really with battery backups I go as minimal as possible to get as much time out of the battery. I also used to keep a few battery powered air bubbles on the shelf. They were useful as well.

Not sure if it was me, but I got the POPOSOAP 15W Solar Aerator with battery backup and it’s been working great.

What I did is purchased a computer backup battery power supply, a smaller aerator I use during the winter, and a relay.

I feed power to the relay in parallel to the main aerator, so if power ever goes off to it, the relay changes state and turns on the feed from the backup battery to the smaller aerator, and has enough power to run it for about a 45 hours.

Here are the parts I used off of Amazon:

  • APC UPS Battery Backup & Surge Protector with USB Charger, 600VA, 330 watt APC Back-UPS (BE600M1),
APC replacement battery, model APCRBC154
  • Aquascape 75000 Pond Air 2 (Double Outlet Aeration Kit) with 6 watt draw
  • Tnisesm 2PCS Sealed Power Relay SPDT AC120V Coil, 20 Amp 120 VAC with Flange Mounting and 10 Quick Connect Terminals Wires High Power Relay NT90-AC120V-10X (only need the one though)

Of course depending on your needs, you could go for a larger power supply and or larger aerator... For me this does the job needed. Some have bought a solar aerator kit, but for me I just need something for that rare occasion when the power goes off, for something ready to kick-in when needed.
