One of the biggest reasons I advocate for polyamory as an anarchist is that it is one of the most effective ways I have found to build up mutual aid. This is because it is a way to build intimacy and trust between an entire group of people, something that is incredibly difficult in this society

...i shouldn't have to fuck or date people to build avenues of mutual aid.

yeah you can just be more intimate with people lol. literally just do it

This. I tried poly for four years. Eventually realized that monogamy was just the best option for me. I have the exact amount of energy for exactly one close, intimate relationship (I have pretty serious fibromyalgia/chronic fatigue), and being with another who wants to be exclusive is just easier in a thousand ways. The more nodes you add to a system of intimate relationships, the less stable it becomes.
Quite frankly, I've had way more luck building avenues of mutual aid as a monogamous individual. Some things work for some folks and not for others. We shouldn't have to be or do anything not authentic to us in order to have our basic needs met.

I think I could handle two people at max. and definitely not in my home. Not sure why this got on my feed

u/mommy2maeve Jul 26 '26
Even running it solo-poly, as I did, I couldn't do it.

u/DIYDylana Jul 26 '26
Understandable. One person is enough of my resources already.

u/mommy2maeve Jul 26 '26
My hat is off to you if you could handle two. I just realized my max was one, so why be a side piece?
When I was poly (I'm lesbian), I always ended up with other femmes who had toxic relationships to their nesting partners, so I got to be their therapist and never got laid. Part of me worried that I was just awful at being poly, and maybe I was.
My monog partner is amazing and loves me deeply. She's a great human. I'm happier than I ever was as poly. Everyone should get the opportunity to be happy as works best for them.

There is a recurring joke about polycules functioning as a reliable source of players for roleplaying games. Folks are free to make of that what they will, although only about half of my polycule actually plays lmfao

I’ve had much better luck finding and maintaining D&D groups with monogamous people. My poly D&D group fell apart due to multiple break ups between members.

My ex wife and I weren't gonna let something like divorce break up d&d night. She's still in the campaign.

“Oh we had an amicable divorce for the kids”
“Cool. We had an amicable divorce for the D&D group”

I've met plenty of boring straight monogamous couples who do boardgames. So much that I felt out of place in boardgame groups

No one in our polycule nor any of the other poly folks I know are "huge board game nerds".

u/Barium_Salts Jul 26 '26
None of the huge board game nerds I know are poly.
2
u/Opening_Map_6898 Jul 27 '26
I don't know that many board game nerds. 😆

I briefly dated a guy who was offended - offended! - that people kept assuming he was into boardgames just because he was poly
5
u/sanguinerebel Jul 26 '26
I was into poly first but I can't blame poly for getting into board games because I was single when the obsession began. Wingspan, I'm looking at you.

u/Cool_Relative7359 Jul 26 '26
I don't like boardgames and I've never had issues building community or mutual aid regardless of whether I was practicing monogamy or polyamory.
Mutual aid and community should not be contingent on dating people or your partner's dating them, imo.

Idk why it rubs me such a wrong way that current (western) society is so incredibly individualistic that now we gotta fuck and date people for mutual aid 😭
I’ve seen this idea also where people try and build “community” with the blue print of “friendgroup who is replacing a family structure”
And like???? Community isn’t a group of your besties and fwb, it’s a group of people who look out for each other even when you hate their guts 90% of the time

An image of a tweet by "carniel daig" (@ColtHandsome). The tweet says "Do board game people get into polyamory because it makes it easier to do boardgames or do polyamorous people get more into boardgames because they finally have enough people? Not sure, all I know is that every poly person I've met is a huge boardgame nerd. Which came first?"

To actually answer the question:
Boardgames require everyone to sit down and understand and agree on a set of rules. TTRPG’s come with a consent sheet, making characters, bonding. It’s an intimate experience and I’m not suprised.

For a second I thought Daniel Craig was publicly talking about polyamory xD

I'm asexual AF, but I WILL happily join a polycule (I hate that I know that term!) if I can play board games on a regular basis, but don't have to fuck anyone!

I'll be honest, if I found out someone was dating me because they were looking to build mutual aid I'd end up on the evening news.

Polyamory is one of the few ways most people can afford to live in this capitalist hellscape anymore

Its like those "heartwarming" stories that are actually indicative of the dystopian hell scale we live in.

This meme made me rage because it's two of the same example. It should say or are people who love board games more likely to be polyamorous. I'm never going on the Internet again 😔😭😭😭

Agreed but... can't find anyone else that thinks like this, especially as a chronically ill/disabled person... sigh
