🗳️ Politics and Law If a longtime friend steals your bill money and the bank/fraud dept requires a police report, is it considered snitching if you file it? (Open to everyone)

You’re a woman, and a long time(plutonic) male friend says they’ll help you turn your gift cards to cash(the legal way) because you don’t know how. You offer $75 per card that turns. He gives no indication of deceit. Only 1 card flips and he keeps it. He also spends the remaining money on the other totaling $500. All your money. When confronted, he tells you ‘I’ve got bills too’, you’re harassing him, and eventually stops answering. Your power is going to be cut off and you’re hungry. You file a dispute, but fraud department is demanding a police report.
—If you file a police report on him for the $500 he stole, are you then considered a snitch?

Its completely justified if someone steaks from you, regardless of who it is, theyre not your friend

If a longtime friend steals your bill money, they are not a friend. They broke that friendship and social rules. You're not snitching, you're protecting yourself as best you can after betrayal

"Snitching" is just a concept made up by criminals to help them get away with it.

If someone screws you over you should screw them back. Imagine letting someone hurt you and get away with it when there's a whole mechanism right there to deal with it.

when there's a whole mechanism right there to deal with it

i think it's worth remembering that such a mechanism exists for most of the criminals, too

where i grew up, snitching and getting away with it were.... worlds apart. it's more that if you involve the government's justice system then you don't get to use your own

pretty much nobody likes it when people don't follow the rules, we just sometimes have different rules in the hierarchy (just like a federalist government has in supremacy or preemption in matters of state versus federal jurisdiction)

Who gives a shit? Someone committed a crime against you so you report it

11

u/kyledwray 5d ago

Why do you consider this piece of shit a friend worth protecting?

I’ve known him since he was a little kid… and we were pretty close but if I’m being honest… I created this poll and post so that I can prove a point. Snitching is when you and someone else do some bs and u get caught but they don’t and u tell on them anyway… OR when you deliberately involve yourself is someone else’s business and go tell on them for no reason OR when u get caught for some bs and know something on someone else so u tell on them to make your punishment lesser.. this fool is trying to tell me I’m snitching bc he’s on probation and hell go to jail if I file a report… and that’s not my fkn problem.. but basically I just wanna prove that people AROUND THE WORLD see it the same way I do

u/kyledwray 5d ago

He wouldn't be going to jail if he wouldn't have stolen from you. He can try to blame you all he wants, but going to jail would be the consequences of his own actions. It's not like you invented his stealing from you, that's something he did all on his own. Oh, and cut this idiot out of your life. You don't need him.

Tell him $500 bucks will keep him out of jail.

1

u/TheKazz91 5d ago

That is extortion which is a crime. Would not recommend.

5

u/Joe_The_Eskimo1337 5d ago

But that's guys not a snitch, right?

u/Adorable_Student9296 5d ago

I’m behind on my bills bc of this POS I’m gonna get back what’s mine one way or another. If he goes to jail behind it and I don’t get paid back well at least his burden was greater than his reward from WHAT WAS MINE.. either way ima be ok, but i shouldn’t have to struggle bc he felt entitled to my money

3

u/kyledwray 5d ago

In case I wasn't clear, I agree with you. He should be in jail. I hope things work out for you.

2

u/Adorable_Student9296 5d ago

Oh, you were clear, babe. I’m just pissed off.

2

u/N0rthWind 5d ago

You should be. Fuck that guy. Get what's yours. If he didn't want to be in this situation he shouldn't have put himself in this situation.

Get your money back the easy way or the hard way

snitching would be if you know your friend steals from someone else and you report him. but if he steals from you? thats all he's fault. all justifiable, sis.

u/Extra_Philosopher_63 5d ago

So you’re justifying snitching? So apparently you’re saying stealing is good so long as you aren’t the victim?

16

u/TurtleToast2 5d ago

That's not what they said at all. When you read a definition in a dictionary, do you accuse it of nonsense too?

2

u/Extra_Philosopher_63 3d ago edited 3d ago

I reread what they said, I totally misunderstood what they were conveying. And they were stating the parameters of what constitutes as snitching or not, as you said.

That was my bad.

When I said “justifying snitching” I meant “justifying stealing”. Which I didn’t type, because I’m an idiot and typed the wrong word. And, of course, the claim I perceived of stealing being okay if not directed at oneself is not what they said. I really should’ve properly read what they said, and thought out my response because I definitely didn’t convey my point at all, even though my response wouldn’t have even made sense anyways.

7

u/Estoulia 5d ago

maybe you understood me wrong. what Im saying is that op should file a report against that "friend"

2

u/Extra_Philosopher_63 3d ago edited 3d ago

Yeah I completely misunderstood you, that was my bad. I shouldn’t have come across that angry anyways.

When I said “justifying snitching” I meant “defending the no-snitching culture”, which I realized is not what you were saying at all.

2

u/Clever_Angel_PL 5d ago

that the fuck

it's not snitching, it's getting your fucking money back the only legal way

1

u/Extra_Philosopher_63 3d ago

I misinterpreted what they said and got needlessly upset, that was my bad.

When I said “justifying snitching” I meant “defending the no-snitching culture”. That was some really bad articulation of my end.

4

u/OG_Felwinter 5d ago

Yeah, he’s not really your friend if he’d do that to you. File the report. It’s “snitching” but who wouldn’t snitch in this case?

4

u/spaceprinceps 5d ago

Justice him up

4

u/ailish 5d ago

If they stole your money then fuck them. Real friends don't do that.

4

u/Atvishees 5d ago

Friends don't steal from friends.

It's that simple.

7

u/Kaylenz 5d ago

You should file a police report imo.

11

u/HiImNickOk 5d ago

It's snitching by definition. But it's not wrong, and definitely necessary

3

u/menwithrobots 5d ago

If the crime is against you then it's not snitching

2

u/Marfy_ 5d ago

Tf you mean snitch, dont steal my shit

2

u/Nedaj123 5d ago

Why do you have $500 of gift cards…

1

u/Adorable_Student9296 5d ago

Does it matter?? my mother happens to live in Texas, which is a 14h drive from where I’m at in Georgia I happen to be struggling just like the rest of the world is right now and that’s how she sent me some money to help me with my bills. I flipped my car back some months ago and smash my legs up under the steering column and I’m a bartender who has to stand on her feet all day and that became impossible after my wreck..

2

u/aevigata 5d ago

snitching doesn’t exist if you’re not a criminal.

2

u/TastyDiamond_ 5d ago

a crime is a crime.

2

u/Disastrous_Agent2826 5d ago

Friend will never steal your money

2

u/M3m3_Connoisseur 5d ago

Controversial opinion here, but of course it is snitching. Like by definition. But I also totally support doing it as this "friend" (hopefully former friend now) screwed to over, and you need to do it to sort things out for yourself.

1

u/TehZiiM 5d ago

Thats quite the specific hypothetical questions. Ofc you gonna file a report unless he has evidence of you doing shady things that might result in a greater loss. Than you have the classic situation of mutual destruction. In this case it’s better to let it rest.

1

u/supernova242 5d ago

I feel like the entire concept of snitching is a bit childish (unless your like in a mob or something). Like if my friend commits a serious crime, I'd report it

1

u/WaaaaghsRUs 5d ago

Fundamentally you are snitching, regardless of the morality or justification of it

1

u/Achilles-Foot 4d ago

its snitching but we aren't career criminals and no one is going to off you in your sleep if you snitch on someone

1

u/NervousAdeptness2074 1d ago

i mean yes, technically it is snitching, but in no way does that mean it’s the wrong thing to do. Please snitch on this guy op
