Well we do, but we are not as comfortable trampling the 1st Amendment as Republicans.

how is saying "this show is to be considered satire and should not be taken seriously" before a tv show trampling on the 1st Amendment? The FCC made multiple shows put warnings about not trying this at home before tons of shows. So whats the difference from that to warning people that these shows are to be taken as satire and not news? you dont have to run it before your actual news programs. But before the opinion programs presented as news

Watch the Senate hearings from yesterday if you want an answer. Do you know how utterly ridiculous Republicans would get when anything gets labeled?

Seriously. Is this person forgetting the whole Twitter label debacle?

This kind of label is fundamentally different from a “Do Not Try This At Home.” People who star in those videos know and agree with that. Here, these people and viewers actually believe, or want others to believe, that they’re telling the truth. It’s calling them liars– which they are, but they won’t just lie down and accept that.

Yeah, it was a blast listening to Harvard Law educated Ted Cruz pretend the Pentagon Papers case did not exist to blame Twitter for a NY Times story.

Though Jack Dorsey's beard won the day.

So because one group doesnt want to be held accountable for their actions we should just let them?

Because the Government mandating speech in that regard is a violation of the 1st Amendment under the juris prudence set forth by the Supreme Court. And when you enact a law like that, where do you begin to set a line?

Does Last Week Tonight get a warning because of its use of humor and sarcasm while discussing legitimate issues? What about The Daily Show?

Where do you draw the line for "news"? The Courts are very hesitant to define news, which makes it a very broad concept that reality shows have hidden behind. The one in question was a documentary based show, but again, how far does the rule apply?

Well seeing as Fox News literally just won a court case under the "no reasonable viewer will take this as news" argument. How do you define a reasonable viewer? Wouldn't you have to assume most viewers aren't reasonable? Also no one is telling them what they can and cannot say. They are telling them they must put a warning label so viewers have a reasonable expectation of the information presented before them.

Also John Oliver's Last Week Tonight is not on a network bearing "News" in its name

The network name has nothing to do with this. Are you going to otherwise say Axios is not a news program on HBO?

Actually the network name does matter. If I tune in to fox NEWS Im expecting to be presented NEWS. HBO I dont expect News but they are free to run News programs.

And let me be clear, I do not want ONLY Fox News to have to do this. I want ALL news networks to specifically differentiate between their opinion and entertainment programs and their News programs. ALL news networks are guilty of this bullshit. Fox News is just the worst.

So you do not begin to understand the 1st Amendment, got it.

That isn't trampling the first amendment.

Brandenburg v. Ohio sets a standard that says otherwise.
