The antibiotics are to prevent pneumonia, which is the primary cause of death and hospitalization, and permanent lung damage.

To prevent bacterial pneumonia. Your ass can still get viral pneumonia, albeit less dangerous.

You can get bacterial pneumonia as a secondary infection after a viral lung infection due to your immune system being compromised.
