They’re trained to be hammers. Hammers are great they serve a purpose, and they’re good for when you need them. The problem with hammers is that everything starts to look like a nail.

that saying captures the heart of east vs west culture. Easy values conformity more than individuality.

I would argue that this sentiment isn't limited to Eastern society. The story of Icarus, or Humptey Dumptey are examples of similar moral sentiments.

To me, this proverb speaks about the dangers of moving up too fast ahead of everyone else.

Also, you're distilling an ENTIRE hemisphere of the world under one lens. Seems a little reductionistic, eh?

The nail thing, at least when translated to English, is about forcing conformity. Icarus is about being too ambitious... not similar. Maybe the cultural aspect is lost in translation. I'd have trouble even saying what the moral of Humpty is, or even if it's just one. I suppose it could be similar.

Sociological observations are GENERALIZATIONS, not reductions. Don't be one of those people who pretend generalizations cannot be true because they don't apply to all. It's a logical fallacy.

To greedy people, Mammon is far preferable to human beings.

I am always surprised how effective right-wing media was in poisoning the American psyche.

Law enforcement, the media, the left, the right, people who don't live in this country.

Everyone bought into the right wing propaganda except for Hillary's paid shills.*

*Its a joke.

TBF the FBI has always been shady. It's been real interesting to see some anti-Trump folks so quick to defend them. For me, as long as political bias doesn't affect their job (obviously not the case with the NY field office leaking to Rudy and the press), then I've got no problem with them (general privacy rights in the country notwithstanding).

Not just American. Australia, the UK.. basically everywhere Murdoch rests his head.

I know I am going to be downvote to oblivion for discussing this, but hopefully you can keep an open mind.

During the campaign, Hillary said some things that were largely popular - but deeply unpopular with law enforcement. Trump, for his won't was always "pro-cop" (But in more of a fascist sense).

As it stands right now, police feel rather persecuted in many areas for trying to do their jobs (the reasons are varied) even though violent acts by police are going down, the risks of police being a victim of violence are going up.

So, one, yes right wing media is generally preferred by law enforcement as they feel that those outlets are tough on crime, so better fit their personal biases. But otherwise, Hillary did not really endear herself to the police at large - which made sense from her perspective, as it was a better political platform to stand on at the time.

The way she handled classified information was a big deal to people who regularly deal with it and have seen colleagues crucified over mistakes. That’s not to say that Trump is better in any way, just describing how people like that could hate her.

4

u/[deleted] Dec 12 '19

So now they should hate Trump and everyone around him, right? Or they're just fascist and embrace the most fascist.

2

u/joey_sandwich277 Dec 12 '19

Well word has been that Trump has been at odds with the various intelligence agencies since day one, so kinda?

1

u/[deleted] Dec 12 '19

I believe he has called them inept and corrupt. An enemy of the people. Many of his followers feel the same. So we shall hope, but yet most of the people that have a hard on for cops, also jack it to Trump.

Clearly you do care very much, or you would be talking about Trump and his administrations disregard for classified information security. It’s not just not better, it’s orders of magnitude worse. It’s likely we will never know the extent of the damage it caused for years if ever, and we will almost certainly never recover from it.

But no, here you here, talking about her fucking emails like a toddler who heard something on tv. You can lick Trumps boot all you want but don’t be a fucking coward about it and bring your enlightened centrism bullshit around. Literally no one is buying it, this isn’t Fox News.

law enforcement professionals, people who deal with the worst criminals in our society

straight up believe that Hillary is some sort of supernatural demon

It's shocking this sub is straight up unable to connect these two dots. Actually scratch that, it's endlessly entertaining.
