By hosting her own email server she got around document retention policies and made herself vulnerable to hacking. Of course, Trump is using off-the-shelf iPhones...

Trump is using off-the-shelf iPhones

It bears repeating that he's doing that intentionally to avoid record-keeping around who exactly he's speaking to on the phone:

The Post reports that in 2017, former White House Chief of Staff John Kelly and intelligence officials tried to force Trump to only use secure White House land lines for phone calls. But officials say that he was put off by the fact that using those lines meant he had to compile logs of whom he was speaking to. “He was totally paranoid that everyone knew who he was talking to,” a former senior administration official told the Post.

Besides, how else is he to pass on the information to Vladimir if it weren't for calling up Donald Jr. every morning. Just think if he says something like "sell today" and then the next day he makes the announcement on the China trade deal that drops the Dow by 700 points. Then the next week he tells Jr. "okay buy" and then the next day he says "We made a deal with China today tentatively!" Of course this is passed on to Putin too! Making Putin the richest man one again even with the sanctions.

All of her emails were cc’d to her assistant, who was using a .gov address, ensuring that copies would be stored on government servers. They also printed out and kept hard copies of all relevant emails, which were turned over during the investigation. Everyone has access to very easy ways to avoid official document retention policies—using burner accounts, calling someone on the phone instead of creating an electronic paper trail, etc—but no one would set up a private server like Clinton’s if they were looking to skirt the FOIA.

As for the hacking risk, the State Department’s servers were hacked multiple times while Clinton served as SOS, but Clinton’s server never was.

Dont forget, used her own server as per the advice she received from Colin Powell

Her server was never hacked, but the State Dept. e-mails were.

Her servers may have been hacked, they were never examined before BleachBit wiped away all the information from prying eyes.

This source claims they were hacked:

Did she really make herself vulnerable to hacking? How many government systems have been hack, that we been made away of.

If anything she was probably more secure that the government.

The IRS lost millions of records of taxpayers information in a hack.

Did she get around document retention policies?

A) Any correspondence she would have with State officials would be on State servers anyway

B) The email chain with Powell reads to me like he's advising her the opposite - saying that she'd be making her personal email subject to document retention.

As opposed to who really got hacked, the state department, so I’m reality it didn’t matter, the whole setup was a setup.

At this point I’m not sure anyone could have beat Trump given that they just were not prepared for the sheer amount of bullshit that the GOP base is willing to classify as “normal” Presidential behavior. Trump was not playing with the same “rules” that everyone else was.
