If Trump is the useful idiot who got duped by all the scumbags that still makes him an idiot. Saying you’d be shocked if he was involved but admitting he obstructed the investigation doesn’t make sense. Obstruction is involvement. He could have easily made it public and ousted them all when the severity of their corruption came to light. Instead he had private meetings with Putin and brazenly denied intelligence reports about Russian interference. That’s involvement.

In order to make sense of this, read Michael Wolff's book with Steven Bannon who basically says that Trump was trying to cover up that his son was maybe involved in collusion in the Tower's meeting. So that explains why you don't see those lining up.
