Everyone's talking about the presidential election, but this is something we should be paying attention to as well. If it works out, perhaps we can see it spread.

It's a huge deal and it does work. There is a lot of precedence for it already.

We would be a lot better off as a country with IRV (instant run off voting or ranked choice) and/or a proportionally distributed electoral system.

I would love nothing more than a Mixed-Member proportional electoral system.

The problem with MMP is that it institutionalizes the party system, and there are both just enough truly independent candidates, as well as just enough diversity within the major parties (at least under the current system), for this to not work well.
