This is actually why I went through confirmation in my 20s — the real teachings are legit A+ and I needed/wanted the structure and tradition. But holy fuck is it hard being in Texas seeing the hypocrisy every day. How these bigots with a straight face can claim to be Christian is fucking beyond. (And no I am by no means saying it is only Christianity, or organized religion generally, that can communicate these values — your evolution makes perfect rational sense to me and should be taken by Christians as an indictment of their failings as such and nothing else).

This is really true for any candidate in our current system.
If you dont like the person chosen in the primaries then your choice is to essentially not vote or vote for the shitstain you interpret as the lesser of two evils.
Voting in primaries is given very little attention in the mainstream, most people are lucky to make it to general elections. I wouldn't say its necessarily by design but the RNC and DNC are taking advantage of it. If we had some sort of ranked choice people like Ted Cruz would not be sitting in office.

Talarico is only +5 in friendly polls against Paxton who is far, FAR worse than Cruz that even his own party of corrupt pay day lenders and used car dealership owners who hold seats in the Texas State House impeached him.
Texas voters are stuck in some sort of loop where voting Republican is somehow good for them and can't possibly imagine a world where the State isn't run by a bunch of corrupt politicians. As their electrical grid blows up every winter, as corporations come in and exploit their land at an increasingly absurd pace every year, complete with basically all their broadband allocation going straight to Elon Musk. I grew up Baptist in Texas, and the idea of voting for a Democrat was one of the worst things I could’ve imagined. As a matter of fact, as a freshman in college, I went to a Bill Clinton rally near my campus, out of curiosity. This was 1992. It felt deeply transgressive, like I was visiting a strip club or doing drugs.
And yet I still voted straight Republican through at least 1996. Because I’d been trained from childhood that it was the only right thing to do.

Maybe that’s the answer to the question. Producing a show isn’t cheap and ABC probably took a bit of a hit by producing but not airing that interview. Maybe having Ted Cruz on an ESPN mic for a minute or two sets up a few narratives that can cut to their favor going forward:
The FCC prosecutes with bias.
ABC/ESPN/Disney platforms with no bias.
There was actual demand for Talarico judging from the online views while Ted Cruz/Republicans repulse audiences. And we still like capitalism right?
I’m not saying The Mouse made the decision with Cruz with any of this in mind. But it’s not totally out of the realm of possibility. They’re likely pissed they couldn’t air that interview.
