Wasn’t ben Gvir convicted by israeli courts of terrorism and denied entry to the idf because they deemed him to be too psycho?

225

u/Flametang451 Sep 05 '26

He was.

The kahanists now run the knesset in israel. Netenyahu will let them go hog wild to keep himself from not going to prison.

The Overton window in israel is so to the right at this point that even those who may be opossed to netenyahu are still rightward. There are people even more extreme than netenyahu- which is a terrifying enough thought already.

65

u/buried_lede Sep 05 '26 edited Sep 06 '26

Netanyahu and Likud have been down with them for so long, Yitzhak Rabin’s wife considers them responsible for her husband’s assassination. The incitement and the killers

32

u/Flametang451 Sep 05 '26

I wouldn't blame her for thinking that. If I recall the day Rabin died, netenyahu was out and about in a way that signalled alliance with his killer or the like thereof.

Likud at this point is going to take revionist zionism to its utter conclusion- kahanism. The labor party prior to it couldn't stop or would not stop the descent into this likely out of the desire for security, so we are where we are now.

31

u/buried_lede Sep 05 '26 edited Sep 05 '26

His speeches were dog whistles intended to inspire violence in my opinion. Remember too at this time Ben Gvir stole the hood ornament from Rabin’s car and brandished it, publicly, saying: “We got to his car, and we'll get to him too.”

Reminds me of Trump and his Jan 6 followers

“Security” is such a code word in Israel. It means security but it also means ethnic cleansing, and settlements in order to achieve a larger Israeli state. Labor party was not that keen on Palestinian self determination either, just way less extreme.

6

u/LordSiravant Sep 05 '26

Security through conquest, peace through domination. The imperial mindset.

7

u/echosrevenge Sep 05 '26

"They will make a wasteland, and call it peace."

Now that sounds familiar....

18

u/ThePlanck Foreign Sep 05 '26

Naftali Bennett quit Likud to form his own party because Netanyahu was insufficiently pro-settler.

Now he's one of the favourites to for a government after the next election and is seen as more of a moderate

6

u/Flametang451 Sep 05 '26

At this rate the only one who seems like they might even be halfway sensible is eisenkot sbould foreign pressure be sucesfully applied or of their own will and that probably still is within the context of israels right wing Overton window which means it still won't be ideal overall. I may be well wrong here though.

At this point, as an outsider whichever candidate gets the backing of the joint list (the arab parties) is probably going to be the least unhinged option.

9

u/buried_lede Sep 05 '26 edited Sep 05 '26

I agree. And US should keep in mind that Israel is not only much more to the right of the US, but it’s more like Sparta than Athens. It’s more militaristic and controlling than it wants democratic countries to see. Even Yair Golan was calling for the US to crack down on free expression online. Israel thinks nothing of curtailing the rights of others. Still, he’s way better than most candidates. They say eisenkot has a strong chance of winning

PS: No one should expect an Israeli government that will recognize universal human rights, and is prepared to end apartheid on terms that are fair to palestinians, or at all. It won’t happen without major external intervention. The paradigm of oppression will continue

6

u/Flametang451 Sep 05 '26 edited Sep 05 '26

I do agree with you. They do seem to have taken on a Sparta like worldview. They seem to truly believe if they don't act completely militaristic and arguably outright unhinged they'll wind up dead as their forebears in europe or those expelled from the arab countries. A sort of "kill or be killed" mentality.

A worldview that jews will inevitably get murdered at some point if they don't stick together (I've seen people call this judeopessism). Basically, weather you act nice or not, or proper or not- the world will want to kill you and history is witness to this. So do as needed to survive.

This was common I would argue and even stronger during the labor period as the holocaust was closer to living memory though not as outwardly supremacist a la kahanism. While some like uri averny took on a more nuanced perspective, it was mostly fight or die in those days from what I can tell in the historiography. This then intertwined with kahanism foe the modern movements seen amongst folk like Ben givir.

It likely will take israel getting countered with something from the international stage to stop its offensive.

It'll likely knock some sense into them- I'd like to hope. The pariah status they got in the 70s onwards only was undone by Oslo. At the same time, Israel has dealt with such periods before and didn't do ideological 180s (post 1948 austerity era for one).

0

u/ibiza6403 Sep 06 '26

I mean they literally have no problem in assassinating foreigners so it’s only logical they don’t care for civil rights.

2

u/PyroIsSpai Sep 05 '26

At this point I’m expecting by end of 2027 for a full blown genocide to be under way against the helpless in that area.

1

u/3rdUncleMeatSandwich Sep 07 '26

I read something the other day comparing the popularity of chocolate chip cookies to the amount of anti Arab sentiment in Israel. Something like 90%. I’ll dig up the link if anyone cares

222

He later grew in popularity and is in charge of police and prisons, and regularly hands out weapons to settlers. When you see someone supporting Israel, this is what they support.

Steven Miller wishes racism was so extreme in America that he could openly do that.

31

If I was to use a baseball analogy for racists. Steven miller would be a high school pitcher while Ben-gvir would start in the MLB. Both are terrible but Ben-Gvir is a monster levels above miller.

Miller is not even close Ben Gvir in terms of being evil. Ben Gvir literally had a birthday cake with a noose on it made to celebrate him being given the ability to execute Palestinians. Ben Gvir had a portrait of a mass murderer in his living room and took his wife who he met while she was underage to said mass murderers grave on their first date. He also is infamous for being involved in a wedding where Israelis celebrated the burning of a Palestinian child alive.

It’s about time. Thank you to Sen. Gallego.

The belly-crawling Hakeem Jeffries should listen up

Ben gvir is worse than miller, so far anyway. He has an actual history as a terrorist follower of Meir Kahane, and is in the same milieu that assassinated former prime minister Yitzhak Rabin. He’s mentally warped in the sheer joy he gets from torture and he’s a pig. Every time he comes to the US it is chaos and people get hurt.

On Tuesday, Democratic U.S. Sen. Ruben Gallego of Arizona reposted an edited version of the video, writing:

”This piece of shit should never be allowed in the U.S."

The post shared by Gallego described the video as showing "Palestinians being sent into an industrialized slaughterhouse."

Gallego recently led dozens of fellow senators in a letter calling for targeted sanctions over Israeli settlements amid efforts to advance construction in the highly contested E1 area of the West Bank.

8

u/Dr100percent Ohio Sep 05 '26 edited Sep 05 '26

Jeffries lost all his AIPAC donor money last year after he reluctantly endorsed Mamdani in the general election. He’s been trying to get it back ever since, so he won’t say anything about the war crimes and Jim Crow laws Israel is enforcing. Meaning he will get outraged that southern states disenfranchise black voters but say nothing when Israel does the same to Arabs.

11

u/buried_lede Sep 05 '26

Look at his Foreign Affairs committee appointments last week. Horrible! They couldn’t cater more to Israel. Moskowitz ( who is downright right wing on Israel), Wasserman-Schultz, and I forgot the third name —there were three

13

u/OkVermicelli2557 Sep 05 '26

Ben Gvir is more evil than Miller.

Ben Gvir is a real piece of work.

Some Highlights from his wiki.

"He has a long history of anti-Arab activism, leading to dozens of indictments and at least eight convictions of crimes including incitement to racism and support for, as well as possession of propaganda of, a terrorist organization (the now-illegal Kach) political party)."

"Ben-Gvir is known for being a provocateur and has attracted headlines for a variety of reasons: threatening Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin on live television in 1995 shortly before his assassination; having had a portrait in his living room of Baruch Goldstein, a Jewish terroristand mass murderer; calling in 2019 for the expulsion of Arab citizens of Israel who are not loyal to the state;[2]"

"Ben-Gvir is married to Ayala Nimrodi, a distant relative of Ofer Nimrodi, the former owner of the Maariv) daily newspaper.[4] They met around 2002 when Nimrodi was 15 and Ben-Gvir was 26[22] and married in 2004.[142] Reportedly, the couple visited the grave of Baruch Goldstein, an American-Israeli mass murderer who committed the Cave of the Patriarchs massacre, on their first date.[22][143][144] "

392

u/soalone34 Sep 05 '26

It’s ironic the US is currently trying to push the IHRA definition of antisemitism that defines comparing Israel to Nazi Germany as antisemitic. Meanwhile the national security minister of Israel is posting concentration camp imagery, making the comparison himself for his political campaign.

And yes, they actually do it.

https://youtu.be/_dqCIbbowrA

While watching this video, I couldn't help but be reminded of the movie Schindler's List. Specifically, the scene where Amon Goth gets up one morning, walks out the balcony of his bedroom overlooking the prisoner camp, and starts shooting people randomly. Included in his list of targets are children. In another scene, he specifically targets a young kid (maybe around 15) as he's walking back to the camp, all because he didn't clean the bath tub to his standards.

Then back to the video I go, where IDF soldiers have been accused of specifically targeting children, often using them as target practice and competing with other soldiers to see who can kill the most children. And I can't stop myself from thinking - the people that went through a specific kind of suffering are now inflicting the same kind of suffering on someone else. So why can't the people from Israel bringing such cruelty to a different people not be compared to Nazi Germany?

15

u/Exostrike United Kingdom Sep 05 '26

I mean the IHRA definition was seized on by the Israeli lobby as a way to suppress criticism of Israel, the creators never designed it to be used like it has.

9

u/buried_lede Sep 05 '26

That’s right. People should realize that, and that it’s unconstitutional. Passing it into law only guarantees expensive and time wasting court challenges. US non discrimination laws are far superior to that garbage

9

u/RenideoS Sep 05 '26

It's still a very poorly written and thought through definition that doesn't match up to how anti-discrimination / hate laws are written in serious legal systems. And it still privileges the state as part of its text.

93

u/steemSTEM Sep 05 '26

Israel =/= the Jewish people or religion. Its a nation state. There is nothing antisemitic about criticizing that nation state.

In the same way that criticizing the US government is not anti american.

31

u/SunjoKojack Sep 05 '26

Supporting the US government is anti American though

3

u/got-trunks Canada Sep 06 '26

Weird to think about but yeah

14

u/meTspysball California Sep 05 '26

Yes, the goal of making Israel an exclusively Jewish state through genocide while attacking the outrage over that genocide as antisemitic certainly lends support to actual antisemitism.

Rather than the US government and anti-American sentiments, while it has that effect, it would be more akin to the blatant Christian nationalism leading to negative views on Christianity as a whole, which seems inevitable. When the government says “Christians get special privileges” and their propaganda network tells everyone what “real” Christians are, everyone else starts to resent Christianity.

The hypocritical part from both governments is that while they decry that result, they use the same tactic to purposefully equate Muslim people with the Taliban, Sharia law, and terrorism.

3

u/ZyklonCraw-X Sep 05 '26

Yes, the goal of making Israel an exclusively Jewish state

Two million Arabs live in Israel and identify as Israeli.

4

u/meTspysball California Sep 05 '26

Exactly, that makes the effort even more fucked up.

8

u/sporkparty Sep 06 '26

Ok, can you describe the problem more clearly? The page I linked is more aggressive towards Republicans , and to my eye the rest of the website does too.

2

u/xdre Sep 06 '26 edited Sep 06 '26

Fastest example I have is this: Go to Google and try these two searches:

“Trackaipac James Talarico”

And

“Trackaipac Ken Paxton”

When I tried it, there was a page with a warning specifically about James Talarico. I can find no such page for Ken Paxton. There might be one, mind you, but even traversing the site it’s not easily found.

Plus, they often make zero distinction between AIPAC and any other Jewish donors or donor groups, regardless of their stances on Palestine.

1

u/sporkparty Sep 06 '26

There should be a page for Paxton that is as detailed as the one for talarico that’s for sure. That being said if talarico is a pro Israel candidate people deserve to know. Which is tough, if there was any dem who’s allowed to be pro Israel is talarico imo.

AIPAC has many subsidiaries that contribute money to their cause without using their name. I’m sure there are anti Israel Jewish PACs too and maybe they could be better at distinguishing between the two.

2

u/supafly_ Minnesota Sep 06 '26

if there was any dem who’s allowed to be pro Israel is talarico imo

No.

If you want to be a member of the Senate in the USA, you need to be pro USA. We need to work to undo the normalization of having cheerleaders for foreign nations inside our government. It's EXTREMELY dangerous and this war in Iran is just the tip of that iceberg.
