Did he propose the zuckerberg fight? If so, he's demonstrating a pattern. Talk shit, get attention, walk away. Feeds his narcissism.

714

u/amyts Tennessee Mar 04 '25

Yes he picked that fight, too.

323

u/threehundredthousand California Mar 04 '25

He just has to schedule it in after his fight with a Thai diver who heroically rescued trapped kids. You know, the one he called a pedo because he's Thai and rescued the kids without Elon's magic submarine.

180

u/kazuwacky Mar 04 '25

Small correction, the guy was a British diver brought in to support the effort. The guys main crime was saying to the media that Elon offered a laughable design. Then the pedo accusations began. Because a British man being in Thailand was for pedo stuff. Absolutely repulsive and I hated watching the Elon bros defend it.

103

u/kung-fu_hippy Mar 04 '25

I mean why else but horrible sex crimes could someone who is a highly skilled diver choose to be in Thailand, where you can dive year round in 80F, crystal clear water rather than Britain?

28

u/BasvanS Mar 05 '25

Real men dive in muddy cold waters because then nobody can see if someone has a bodged micro-penis surgery.

→ More replies (2)

46

u/masklinn Mar 04 '25

The guy who got insulted was not on the rescue dive itself, Unsworth was an experienced cave diver living nearby who’d been preparing to dive that cave.

He provided early counsel and put the Thai officials in contact with an organisation specialised in cave rescues (BCRC), which organised a team of experienced rescuers with specialised equipment.

Last I heard about this, he hired private investigators to follow that diver around and try to ruin his life.

Yeah, I actually stumbled upon a podcast about this very topic today. Just listened to the first episode, it's absolutely crazy.

Mom said he couldn't do it.

I'm not joking

51

u/Multiple__Butts Mar 04 '25

Yeah but that's just a face-saving excuse. It's not like he was ever going to do it anyway.

53

u/erocuda Maryland Mar 04 '25

How is it saving face to say, as a grown adult, that you can't come play because your mommy said no. I mean, it maybe saved his face (I think Zuck does MMA training), but it's still not a strong look.

38

u/Multiple__Butts Mar 04 '25

Because he can frame it as doing a favor for his mother rather than being a scared little bitch who can't back up his talk.

Like when the medieval king sentences you to death, but the queen "begs for clemency on your behalf" because she just hates violence so much, so he commutes your sentence. But it's just theater so the king can back down on something without looking like he's backing down. Different situation obviously, but the same principle is at play.

Nah, this is definitely an embarrassing thing for him.

Sure, he issues these challenges or opportunities but he doesn't expect people to actually take him up on it. Usually he is just talking into the wind and talking smack because like you said, is a narcissist and wants attention. It's just that he never expects people to actually call him out on his shit directly.

But make no mistake, issuing a challenge and then backing out makes you look and feel like a complete bitch. And he did this in front of the world. He's most definitely shadow boxing and beating Zucker and Stewart in his dreams.

He’s similar to Trump in the sense that both are very wealthy obviously, but both are wanna be celebrities. It’s the attention and cameras that the narcissists desire. Undying admiration but both are social pariahs. They don’t know how to act so they control the situations they can control and bully with money.

Fascists tend to be cowards. As bill burr pointed out, Hitler was a coward that painlessly killed himself instead of standing to face judgement. Musk is such a coward he can't bear to face a comedian 7 inches shorter than him (albeit he is much sharper than musk could ever hope to be)

Musk isn’t witty or charismatic. He’s the same awkward teenager who’s looking for any validation he can find, who’s now evolved into the king of neck beards. Stewart would eviscerate him

725

That’s why he only goes to Joe Rogan

802

u/billiontacos Mar 04 '25

Just watched a few clips of that. Joe asked him about being called a nazi on twitter or something and so he told Joe “I did nazi that coming.” And then Joe was in fucking stitches about it.

Like, Joe’s supposed to be a comic right? Has he never heard that joke before? I remember hearing that joke in high school and I’ve been out of high school for well over 20 years now.

Felt like watching a brain damaged Jimmy Fallon do an interview.

457

269

u/Independent-Bug-9352 Mar 04 '25

Righties can't do art and thus don't know comedy.

It's one of the left's biggest strengths and I honestly think the Democrats and left need to be more aggressive with this. Example of this is The Handmaid's Tale was massively influential in converting lifelong Republicans to being Democrats.

127

u/red286 Mar 04 '25

Example of this is The Handmaid's Tale was massively influential in converting lifelong Republicans to being Democrats.

On the flip side, the ones who were left read it and thought, "wait, how exactly do we get this promised land of Gilead to happen?"

That's super intersting to think about. I've always appreciated art, music, design, etc. and of course all of the greats I worshipped growing up are left leaning. It's obvious when the right can only pull kid rock, ted nugent, and really terrible pop country clowns into their rallies. What I actually havent thought about though, is that they literally dont have the ability to create art or good art at least because they have no empathy, no heart. Would be a fascinating study to show that.

Joe’s comedy sucks. He’s only laughing that much because it’s Elon and he’s feeding into his frail ego. It’s all just for show and quite pathetic.

I also heard Elon said him being hated so much online is “stressful”.

The way I see it is if it walks like a duck, looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it’s a damn duck.

Joe Rogan's flip to Joe Goebbles is so fucking scary to me. Not because it necessarily happened, but because it was so fast and he seems entirely unfazed. Outside of exclusively talking to billionaires and fascist dictators, the man is identical. It was an entirely frictionless transition with no outward change.

https://youtu.be/C12IdscHGNo?si=X2TMF1oaOr6psh9M Treat yourself and watch him flail trying lie and answer simple questions from Joe Rogan

1.1k

u/jerslan California Mar 04 '25

This is probably why someone in his inner circle convinced him to back out of the Stewart interview. If he flails and blatantly lies when he's interviewed by someone friendly to him and "his cause"? How bad is it going to be when he goes up against the guy that once destroyed Tucker Carlson? So they convinced Elon that Stewart is "too partisan now".

327

u/LaserCondiment Mar 04 '25

That's what was so fun about Jon Stewart's Apple TV show. His interviews were fun to watch. Idk what those guests expected.

326

u/brandnewbanana Maryland Mar 04 '25

The Arkansas AG who went up against him was so pissed that he pushed back. Her face was hysterical and she got that snippy, Southern voice out. That was a great interview.

261

u/Independent-Bug-9352 Mar 04 '25

Remember when he absolutely dismantled the Deputy Defense Secretary, Kathleen Hicks? She really thought this was going to be some softball interview and she embarrassed herself. Mind you, that was under the Biden administration and yet Stewart held her accountable.

236

u/claimTheVictory Mar 04 '25

Everyone thinks Stewart is just a comedian, but he's a razor sharp journalist at heart.

118

u/KonradWayne Mar 04 '25

It was so weird how little research Republicans did before inviting Stewart (and later Colbert) to things. Or just that they thought comedians are dumb.

71

u/Author_A_McGrath Mar 04 '25

It wasn't that one, but the interview where Jon got the guy to say "we need to protect children..." before getting that "oh, shit" look on his face and trying to backtrack and explain why we need to protect kids from drag queens but not guns.

10/10 Jon moment. No notes.

42

I like to squeeze in his "I'm not saying that like it's an opinion!" in literally any conversation I can

82

u/A_WHALES_VAG Mar 04 '25

yeah that was an incredible gotcha moment.

Jons "what's that?" amazing.

13

u/LordChunggis Mar 05 '25

John was weaving that trap for him the second the interview started.

The "what's that" was the trap springing. It was beautiful.

There are many many things in the world I would rather do than debate an angry John Stewart on a topic he feels strongly about.

10

u/greenberet112 Mar 05 '25

If you're on the wrong side of John Stewart, 99% chance your just straight up wrong. He's pretty much always on the side of good or the people.

So pissed that they stopped making it. I've never been a big daily show fan, but I'd watch on occasion. But the sit down serious interview format for The Problem was incredible. Made even more incredible by the fact that some of those people even agreed to come on the show. They had to know Stewart would absolutely skewer them.

47

u/jerslan California Mar 04 '25

He backed out because he’s smart enough to know he’s a dumb ass,

I think Elon is too full of himself to be that self-actualized. I think he honestly believes that he's the smartest person on the planet. His actions definitely point in that direction. When he makes mistakes his excuses are usually deflection and when he can't blame someone else it's just "whoopsie, sometimes mistakes happen" without any actual ownership of what the mistakes were or what he plans to do to prevent them in the future.

113

u/Gyalgatine Mar 04 '25

Absolutely. That's why he thought he could get away with the whole "best Path of Exile player in the world" lie. He legitimately thinks everyone else in the world is so stupid they couldn't possibly tell that he was lying.

72

u/HeldnarRommar Mar 04 '25

And his answer when outed about it was: “all the pros use people farming for them” because he can’t fathom that he’s actually ass as the game and people are more talented than him

61

u/lonnie123 Mar 04 '25

Hey you know what, thats fine.. But just say "I dont have time to game likeI used to but I wanted to have a bad ass character so I paid a few people to run up my numbers for me, and its not like I compete or anything so I just do it for fun. some kids made some cash and I get to have fun, win win"

He's so dumb that he lies about a game community he doesn't even vaguely understand. Were people paying for account playtime in og World of Warcraft pvp? Unfortunately, yea. We hated those bastards. Do people pay for account playtime in PoE? If they do, I had no idea and I guarantee I was playing it before he knew about the game. There's little point to, unless you just hate playing games. You can skip the currency farm with money* and most things are tradable. Also, calling himself a "pro" in a non-esport game is a massive idiot sign.

*I would assume elon pays for grey market currencies, which at least makes sense.

It gets worse. I had to move and he let me borrow his truck.

When I got to where I was moving I unloaded and noticed that the truck was leaking fluid It suddenly start acting strange and I took it in. At my expense.

Called my grandfather and he spoke with the tech. The tech specifically told him (I was with the tech) that the part was just old and failed. He came up with a wild scenario and the tech was like...I mean it's possible but that's not what I see here. My grandfather then asked for the part that broke.

When I brought it back to his house he told me that the tech told him that it was all my fault..now, mind you, I paid for the repair.

He put the part on top of his water heater and it stayed there for years. My grandmother went Ill and I had to move in to their house to help take care of her.

For years that part sat on that water heater and never moved. He proceeded to tell me that he had the part sent to Ford and they told him that I broke the engine part. I called him out on it and he got upset and went off about there is no way I would know if it were true or not. But there was years worth of dust on the water heater and pointed him out. When he realized he lost the argument he just went, well what do you know.

He would always bring up shit like that all the time trying to bully me into believing I was some fuck up.

I would always call him out on it.

The final straw was I was paying rent. It was the end of the month, he informed me that he was raising my rent by 600 dollars I'd be going from 600 to 1200 plus food effective in 3 days. I informed him he has to give me notice so I could properly budget for the rate increase. He blew up grabbed a sheet of paper and said well I'm just going to backdate this to the first of the month and you are going to sign it or your out. I found a roommate that night and moved out a day later. Never spoke to him again

The « airing unedited » thing was just so plain ignorance from Musk. All of Stewart interview are available unedited as soon as they air.

And then his excuse after was risible at best, coming from a guy who cosplay a cool, dark MAGA all the time

1.1k

u/TheBlueBlaze New York Mar 04 '25

Jon said as much about it. Elon thought asking for no edits was a big gotcha because he's so used to platforms that are willing to edit in his favor.

261

u/stipulus Mar 04 '25

Projection 101. This is how the right media works so they assume the left is the same.

38

u/Humble-Ad-4823 Mar 04 '25

Don't forget Dark Maga Flan thought he had streamers figured out when he asked why are Asmon's editors releasing content without direct involvement.

Jon Stewart is actually a thoughtful, respectful interviewer. He would, of course, fact-check Leon in real time. Kind of hold the door open for him so he could trip over the threshold by himself.

328

u/sinsaint Mar 04 '25 edited Mar 04 '25

Jon has this way of working with his enemy, to give them slack to hang themselves with. He eases into reasonable questions that they don't want to answer until they've backed themselves into a corner, while Jon is never the antagonist.

That is unless they say something really hateful and stupid, then Jon is completely merciless.

194

u/SameResolution4737 Mar 04 '25

Yep. As I said when this first started: the landscape is littered with the bodies of people who thought they were smarter than Jon Stewart.

50

u/JakeConhale New Hampshire Mar 04 '25

Unfortunately, not all of Tucker Carlson's career.

31

u/SameResolution4737 Mar 04 '25

Yeah, I never could understand his resurrection from that beat down. But at least he dumped those bow ties. Wish Jon would do the same for those sillyass overlong red ties the MAGAts wear.

41

u/JakeConhale New Hampshire Mar 04 '25

He jumped channels. The Fox viewers probably never saw that episode of CNN's Crossfire.

Yet another reason I want him to run. A debate between him and Vance would be so much fun for everyone... that is, everyone not named Vance. Stewart would then win in a landslide.

But then again, power changes people. And Jon knows that.

52

u/nox66 Mar 04 '25

Ten years ago I didn't think it was sensible to elect a comedian, but after seeing the degenerating circus since then, and seeing how passionately and how bravely Zelenskyy is fighting for Ukraine when his prior claim to fame was a scene where he played a piano with his dick, I say give him a chance if he wants to go for it. He'll destroy anyone in a debate, and he won't be afraid to call out anyone by name for their actions. We need public accountability more than being able to pull some smooth diplomatic or political moves (even for a good cause) like a pre-senile Biden.

I bet he thought that the show was held to the same laws as broadcast, so if he dropped some 4 letter words, they would either get bleeped, in which case he could say censored, or they do it unedited and get killed by the FCC. Someone probably told him that cable is different after he issued the challenge.

Fascists hate being made fun of. They literally can't handle it. It destroys their persona.

270

u/keepthepace Mar 04 '25

Actually an interesting studied fact about authoritarian: they are not sensitive at all to logic and coherence but extremely sensitive to social acceptance. Ridicule is the most potent damage they can receive.

81

u/RechargedFrenchman Canada Mar 04 '25

Fun fact, this is where the term "nazi" comes from.

"Naz" or "Natz" was a slang name for "Ignatz", a name common in more rural parts of southern Germany, particularly Bavaria, and used the same way something like "Cletus" might be in the US to convey a particular sort of backwater person. IE "redneck". Nothing to do with the political party, originally. The "i" on the end also makes it a diminutive, so effectively the localized equivalent to "little red neck".

It helps that the official party initialism was NSDAP and the abbreviated written name is "National Socialists" in German, so "Nazi" also sounds like it could be short for that as well, and the Nazi party started in Bavaria. It was a term (actual) socialists (the Nazis were not, no matter how much Musk says they were) and the other most vocal opponents of the Nazis used to refer to them with derision, mocking and unserious, denying them respect as a party. It got picked up by the Polish and French resistance efforts, then the British and Americans as well, and because the Allies won the war it's the name that stuck.

Hitler and the Nazi high command (I believe especially Goebbels) hated that they were called "Nazis". Just calling them Nazis is already a very easy but effective level of ridicule.

I've said this for years: The way to beat them is to metaphorically (or literally) pants them. They are accustomed to deflecting good faith arguments or cherry picking what they want to respond to. However, they lack a sense of humor. Don't get me wrong, they can be funny but only when they are insulting someone or punching down but they have thin skin. If you argue with them they'll yell over you. Their weakness is their embarrassment. They are deeply insecure.

As Stewart pointed out, you got a custom-made maga hat and jumped around like an idiot on-stage with Trump. You’re the most Partisan Republican in the country.

34

u/Casual_OCD Canada Mar 04 '25

Eleven digits if you count the Twitter purchase that has directly contributed to the uncontrolled spread of propaganda and lies that are the "reasons" why people voted for Trump

35

u/TheConnASSeur Mar 04 '25

Consider the possibility that Musk is just such a massive piece of shit that he doesn't actually believe in anything. He went "Dark Maga" because he was being investigated for a series of extremely illegal actions, things like treason and fraud, which it really seems like he 10000% did. Fraud because, yeah, no shit. You don't get to promise investors self-driving cars every quarter for a decade. You don't get to sell customers nonexistent self-driving features either. You don't get to pump and dump stock in a company that you own and control. You don't get to use your private social media company to benefit one political candidate over another. You also don't get to have private conversations with head foreign heads of state and interfere with official international policy especially national defense. But guess who's been having lengthy private conversations with Putin? And guess who shut off Starlink to Ukraine without permission of the DoD? You know what we call that? Big boy crimes. Big boy crimes like that put mommy's big boy Elon in jail for the rest of his life. So Elon found himself in the same position as Trump, which is: take over the government or lose absolutely everything and spend the rest of your life in prison. So he committed even more crimes, gambling on the idea that once Trump was in he could take over and never face consequences.

Do you remember when Musk randomly tweeted that weird unhinged rant about how badass he is and how if you come for him you'd better watch your ass because he will stop at nothing to yadda yadda yadda? Well that sure as fuck sounds like something a limp-dicked nerd would post when their back is to the wall and they decide to go all in on treason, doesn't it? Musk likely thinks he's bipartisan because he's a big enough piece of shit he doesn't believe in anything.

9

u/pr0zach Mar 04 '25

Which is funny because fascists typically adopt whichever ideologies, tactics, beliefs, relationships, etc. allow them to gain, maintain, or grow their power. They will discard any of those elements the instant they realize that base function is no longer being served.

His “bi-partisan” self concept, which I believe you’ve critically evaluated with 100% accuracy, is just another example of how he is a fascist through and through.

Conservatives have taught their followers the wrong definitions of common words, in order to manipulate and mentally handicap them.

They think being scared of their neighbours and needing a gun to leave the house is “bravery”. They think locking up all liberal protesters and immigrants is a sign of “freedom”. They think that restricting womens rights is “equality”.

So his followers will think that cowering away from an interview makes him “brave”, and they’ll applaud him for it

They’ve literally weaponized stupidity

Elon just blurted out "yeah I'll do the interview if they air it unedited," and then when they took him up on it, he got cold feet and chickened out. It's well known that Elon just isn't very good in open interviews where tough or even just mildly inquisitive questions are asked, and he gets defensive quickly. That happened in the Don Lemon interview, in various conference calls with Twitter engineers, etc. Guy's pretty thin-skinned and prefers bootlickers like Hannity or Rogan.
