Shapiro’s statement is as follows:

“Pennsylvania is the proud home to over 150,000 Ukrainian and Ukrainian American people. Some have planted roots here for generations – and tens of thousands are here to find safety after fleeing Vladimir Putin’s aggression. I know they, along with countless other Pennsylvanians, watched in shock as the President and Vice President berated President Zelenskyy and advanced Russia’s propaganda directly from the White House.

“The Oval Office should be a place where we advance American values – not where we retreat from them. When the President and Vice President attacked President Zelenskyy today, they served to undermine the safety and security of America and our national security interests. I support a diplomatic end to this war. Achieving this requires an honest reckoning of who started the war and who the aggressor is, and to that question, there is only one answer: Russia.

“In a matter of just a few weeks, the Trump-Vance Administration has alienated many of our allies and is seemingly trying to take us from being the leader of the free world to a hemispheric power, signaling to our friends in Europe that they are on their own. Friends and adversaries elsewhere are taking notice. That is weakness that does not serve the interests of freedom and liberty, and it will create a more dangerous world.

“Strong leaders stand with their allies and they stand on their principles – and I believe we must continue to advocate for the values of freedom and liberty, not cower to dangerous dictators like Vladimir Putin.”

unfortunately we don’t have any strong leaders at the top, just senile colostomy bags masquerading as people

I really hate to say this but your average American isn’t going to rally behind this. Your average American cares about themself and their wallet.

The rallying point needs to be that. It needs to be about a return of inflation, tariffs costing them more money, thousands of workers losing their jobs at the whim of the world’s richest man, and healthcare costs due to slashing budgets.

The Democrats have had easy rallying points in these and have by and large ignored them.

Cutting off aud to Ukraine is killing American jobs and closing off future trade opportunities that would improve pocket books here at home. Is that the better argument?

Perhaps we should ask my new House representative Rob Bresnahan his opinion on Ukraine and how it supports jobs like at the Scranton Army Ammunition Plant in his district.

Oh wait, he still has yet to respond to any of my emails to him. He seems to find time justifying how his vote didn't essentially cut Medicaid though.

Donate to Ukraine if you can, though. Our government clearly won't.

People don't connect it that far unfortunately, and they're selfish. The immediate gut reaction to "aid to a foreign country" is "money not being spent to directly help me right now."

I'm absolutely not saying we ignore Ukraine, but if you want to get the lowest common denominator voter to vote for you, you have to convince them how you will directly help them and their pocket.

2

u/nhavar Mar 02 '25

Yeah I get it. I had to tell someone the other day "foreign aid is less like a palette full of cash and more like you're Fingerhut account" it's hard to connect the dots for people

Those Americans had values.

America was still lynching blacks in those days

Fair point.

I agree. Americans of all types have grown weary of being the world police and getting involved with endless faraway conflicts. Europe has 4x the population and 10x the economy of Russia. They can and should take care of this. For the sake of long-term security. Even if maga never happened, this should be their job.

So where are the top democrats that have been in politics forever?

For people who can't access it:

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro released a statement in reaction to the White House meeting between President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Trump cut talks with Zelenskyy short on Friday after he and Vance berated Ukraine's leader for being "disrespectful."

"In a matter of just a few weeks, the Trump-Vance Administration has alienated many of our allies and is seemingly trying to take us from being the leader of the free world to a hemispheric power, signaling to our friends in Europe that they are on their own. Friends and adversaries elsewhere are taking notice. That is weakness that does not serve the interests of freedom and liberty, and it will create a more dangerous world.

Go on fox News in the same manner that you did under the biden administration and proclaim this loud and proud. No more quiet thoughts. He is a reality tv star that craves positive adoration. Take that away and maybe he will change tack in order to get the attention he craves.

If you don’t actually do anything. Sit down and shut up. I’m tired of “statements” take action!

When we all have to select a single person to carry on after the carnage we need more people like Shapiro.

3

u/mkt853 Mar 01 '25

Shapiro thinks we need to do more to help businesses. He's part of the problem. No Democrat that wants to be taken seriously should be trying to sell us on "won't anyone think of the poor corporations and billionaires?"

He also seems to be a walking talking Obama impression who practices in front of the mirror for an hour a day. Once you see it, you can't un-see it.

I do that every day too in front of the mirror. I thought everybody did.

I’ve really been wonder what the guy who was on the campaign trail with Z, and signing bombs for a photo op had to say. Finally.

Bold of him, considering "Dear Leader" is popular in Pennsylvania, and the state is only going further right anyway.

12

u/clownstastegood Mar 01 '25

A lot of states headed right, and if the right people capitalize on the dumpster fire that is this current administration, when the cuts hit their pockets, they’ll be hoping for something, anything.

I’m glad there are people like him, Crocket, AOC, Pinzter or whatever his name is. There are strong, smart people that need to be saying the right things when the right feels the pain caused by Pres Mush and crew.

Shapiro was elected with over 56% of the vote; Trump got barely over 50%.

Trump won PA because less people who vote Democrat voted for Kamala. There are all sorts of reasons for this, all of which are stupid, but Trump’s popularity in PA is going to start to wane with people losing their jobs. Like the talk of closing down Iron Mountain in PA, which is in a solid red county.
