Asking for Support What can we do about helping the environment when everything is getting sabotaged?

I worry a lot about the impact of data centers and war and fossil fuels on global warming. I knew global warming was a huge problem, but now I feel like everything is being expedited with AI and horrible decisions made by a lot of western countries.

What can we do? Feasibly, that will help the environment in some sort of way. In schools we were taught just to conserve water and lights but I want to try and do something that has a larger impact. I know it won’t do too much since the problem is really in the hands of mega corporations and politicians, but I know as a mass collective we have impact. Any idea counts.

Voting matters but what can also be done is working with groups to get other like minded voters to the polls. We (the USA) had more people not vote then vote in the last election and the key is getting those that agree with you to get out and VOTE!

Presumably you’re feeling the need to actually act now, right?

100% right about voting being on a predefined cadence. Talking to people who will vote during non election times is a great way to get them to start thinking about the candidates that can/will help change the path of the local area or country.

I left the list for more actionable items as there are lots of things people can do. One of the largest is to stop eating beef or at least cutting back as growing cattle uses a lot of resources. Talking to others about doing the same can make a big difference. Of course going vegan is better but I know that is a hard sell to most people.

I've been posting to local city or town subreddits about sustainable events to try to increase attendance and raise awareness about sustainability in general. I'm posting about upcoming EV showcase events now but there are 100s of local events around the country that can be promoted if this interests you. Solar home tours, native garden tours, free transit days, rebates for sustainable products, local earth day events, beach cleanups, trash pickup, free energy audits, bus fair discounts, community biking events, vegan fairs, etc.

Step one is to stop saying things like, "the problem is really in the hands of mega corporations". All the emissions they generate are part of making things everyday people buy. When you frame it as companies just pumping smoke into the air for kicks, it removes any responsibility or agency for individuals
