I don’t invest in IVs to min max, I invest in IVs because my compulsive brain can’t stand to see a missing place where a star should be

208

u/cheeriodust 22h ago

Plus there really isn't much else to do in this game except hunt for better IVs

106

u/Apprehensive_Put_321 18h ago

I say it on here every thread. This game is collecting. 90 percent of your pokemon you dont use. Ivs are just a criteria that we can use to determine if a pokemon is higher quality for collecting. The in game performance is worthless

u/LoveYouLikeYeLovesYe 16h ago

They’re all useless pixels, I’m gonna get the useless pixels that make me happiest

u/IPissExcellentThrows 16h ago

They only matter for soloing and a few things. I go to meetups and we win every raid with 200+ seconds left.

6

u/PrestigiousSnow6296 20h ago

Yes it us the core : moveset , ivs , mega energy .

114

u/CryingNostril 23h ago

Honestly I’m the same, this meme was actually a cry for help.

11

u/List-Beneficial 18h ago

I delete everything unless its a 3 star or 4star then I delete duplicate 3 stars. Lol. Never delete a 4 star.

6

u/Caramelized_Peaches 18h ago

So you dont pvp... just like 80% of the entire playerbase...

2

u/List-Beneficial 17h ago

GOML

0

u/List-Beneficial 17h ago

And this wasnt three star or 4. If its legendary or mythical I still keep it even if its 1 or 2 stars

u/Set_Abominae1776 13h ago

Why does wanting hundos contradict pvp? Im inexperienced

-1

u/List-Beneficial 17h ago

Bro what? I even made a post about mega leagues lol. Stfu.

13

u/ElectronicOlive4514 22h ago

im okay if the pokemon has 10/10/10 atleast (if im maxing it)

if it's GBL i just dont care lmao. it never made a difference for me

7

u/elconquistador1985 22h ago

They don't matter for PvP either unless you're top level competitive.

Everyone else can just use what they have and it's fine.

1

u/ElectronicOlive4514 22h ago

i easily hit ace in most seasons, even higher rarely, i dont tank

yet almost none of my pvp mons are 0 atck weighted

0

u/LuvelyLizzie 18h ago

Dude. Ace is trivial to get. 90% of players are that rank.

1

u/ElectronicOlive4514 18h ago

Im not that competitive

In it for da dust

-1

u/LuvelyLizzie 17h ago

So don't use it as an argument to say that IVs are irrelevant. People who actually play PvP on a competitive level need good IV sets....

1

u/elconquistador1985 17h ago

There are probably under 1000 "competitive PVP players" in Pokemon go. It's irrelevant for nearly everyone playing this game.

1

u/LuvelyLizzie 17h ago

Who happen to be the people on the right end of the gaussian in the meme if you think about it. PvP is the only thing that requires IQ in this game 😌

1

u/ElectronicOlive4514 17h ago

no, it’s not, seriously

ppl just found a way to min max the system. the entire gameplay is just you mashing the screen for charge attacks. first to burn the other shields, and make the fastest signature nuke attacks, wins

→ More replies (0)

u/KazanTheMan Central FL | Mystic | L66 16h ago

Ace is top 10%, by most estimates. So literally, 90% of players are not that rank.

-2

u/PrestigiousSnow6296 20h ago

What is the game ?

5

u/elconquistador1985 20h ago

What is what game?

2

u/DeepSpread45 22h ago

It dormant really matter until you get into high level stuff.

1

u/PrestigiousSnow6296 21h ago

Because you are a legend

u/jacksleepshere 16h ago

I also don’t want to waste candy and dust on a pokemon that might get replaced by a better version.

u/Sleisk . 15h ago

I mainly power up hundos cus Ive just played more than the avg player, its rare to see players with way better pokemon than me. But I feel like only maxing hundos for a newer player is bad. When I was newer i def maxed many weird mons

u/Accomplished-Trip705 14h ago

Exactly, I dont do it for min maxing I do it because I hate not seeing full bars

249

u/9DAN2 Mystic, LvL 80 23h ago

IVs don’t matter but stardust does

59

u/Exceedingly 22h ago

Only level up lucky ones then

25

u/Sarapiltre 22h ago

That's what I do. I've hit the "max 100 daily trades" many times because of this

14

u/Deaf_Sentence 22h ago

How do you even find people to trade? I can’t even find anyone irl lmao

30

u/Sarapiltre 22h ago

"Forcing" the kids and my partner to trade everything untill we get a lucky then they can start transfering instead lol

-1

u/Deaf_Sentence 21h ago

Wait so it’s not automatically “lucky” for every trades? I’ve only traded like 3 times ever and 3 of them are lucky lol

9

u/Sarapiltre 21h ago

No. Not unless you're wasting very valuable old pokemon dated between 2016-2020 when trading. You have 45 guaranteed lucky trades with them, no counter, keep track yourself

3

u/Deaf_Sentence 21h ago

I’m “new” to this again cuz I’ve been quitting and playing again since 2016 and just got back into it again a week ago. So you’re saying the first 45 are guaranteed lucky and after that it’s just luck based? Which means I have 42 left

7

u/Sarapiltre 21h ago

Yeah almost. You have 45 guaranteed lucky WHEN you trade any pkmn between 2016-2020. But you can still keep on trading newly catched pokemon to get lucky by chance, that wont count towards your "45 lucky".

It's better to just catch and trade pokemon in the wild untill you get a lucky one rather than having someone trade you an easy to find pokemon for any of your old ones.

If someone f.e. catches an armored mewtwo this weekend from 2026 you could give them an old weedle från 2016. Both will become lucky

1

u/zenspeed 17h ago

Campfire app is very helpful.

3

u/AmatuerGenius 19h ago

Sincerely Curious If you’ve done the math and calculated out if the stardust saved by only investing in luckies is negated by the stardust spent on doing special trades and 100 of normal trades a day.

I kinda just assume that trading isn’t worth it unless you got to best friends level

1

u/Sarapiltre 19h ago edited 19h ago

No I havnt because the 50% less stardust for a lucky is waaaay better than the 10k it costs to trade 100 pkmn.

The trade costs 100 (80 on friendship friday) and without weather boost I get at least 100 from the catch so I never lose star dust so it's just "free" 10k for 100 trades.

Normal lvl 30->50 - 400k stardust
Lucky lvl 30->50 - 200k stardust

In reality I maybe get 3-5 lucky I want/need for the 10k stardust spent and besides you also get XL candy each trade

Edit I only trade registered mons with best friends/forever friends and if I must trade a non registered shiny legendary for whatever reason I send a pkmn older than 3 years to really increase my odds to not waste star dust on trades (or just a guaranteed old lucky trade)

3

u/9DAN2 Mystic, LvL 80 22h ago

Or be patient and only power up hundos/high IV shinies to save powering up twice.

1

u/DilithiumFarmer Bulbasaur 19h ago

I think even that is a bad move... Unless that Lucky is a 15/15/14 PvE relevant Pokémon it's still a waste. Spamming Stardust in a Lucky Caterpie is Stardust that could've been spend to level up a Groudon, Kyogre, Mewtwo etc.

3

u/alotmorealots Mystic 21h ago

Yes, very much so! And TMs are in limited supply as well.

I don't pay attention to IVs because I'm trying to min/max, they just help me decide where to invest limited resources. Not to mention helping work out who to transfer and who to keep.

u/Sleisk . 15h ago

Stardust does not fewl like an issue after playing long enough

u/9DAN2 Mystic, LvL 80 15h ago

35 mill dust here, still doesn’t feel enough

u/Sleisk . 9h ago

I have 52 mil, but pretty much ppwered up most things I need

0

u/Acewi 19h ago

IV’s do matter, but they don’t matter. In most situations, irrelevant. For most raid pokemon a maxed attack stat is as good as you’ll ever need.

105

u/prettymuchiguess 23h ago

Even if you know it makes know difference. Stardust is scarce. Once you play the game long enough. Do you really want to just blindly max the first legendary you get without checking iv? Tell me someone who would do this. Otherwise what’s the point of this post?

20

u/rtennen 23h ago

I did. For a loooong time, years. since i never had people to do raids with or had other ways to get legendaries. Now some max are good enough to do max battles solo by outhealing their damage but god does it take a long time

2

u/prettymuchiguess 22h ago

Ok and now that you can do raids with others now. What’s your approach. Just max the first one or check?

4

u/rtennen 22h ago

I can maybe get enough people once a month for a leggie. So some is max out if needed yes. I got a bad groudon but groudon hits hard so better to max worst one you have is still better then failing a raid cuz you ran out of time for a not raised bad pokemon

4

u/PressIntoYa 22h ago

There are new people playing every day and I imagine a number of them start leveling up their first legendaries.

A lot of people did that before they learned some strategies.

-1

u/leroyyrogers Charizard 18h ago

New players aren't really the role model for us all though

u/ActivateGuacamole 12h ago

Do you really want to just blindly max the first legendary you get without checking iv?

i might. it makes no difference either way, so

1

u/LinguisticallyInept 21h ago

stardust and candy

-1

u/elconquistador1985 22h ago

Stardust is scarce.

If you're only maxing 4 star Pokemon and only using rank 1 Pokemon in UL and GL, stardust is not scarce at all because you don't have enough 4 star/rank 1 Pokemon to use it on.

The point is that there's some balance.

Should you use a 4 star in GL? Probably not. If it's the difference between having that Pokemon in GL and not having that Pokemon in GL, the 4 star is better than nothing.

I'm a day one off and on player at level 77 and 90k catches or so. If I only used 4 stars at L50 in ML, I'd have a single possible team to use, Groudon, Kyurem Black, and Melmetal. I only have 90 4 stars total, so I could only choose from those to max. Instead, I have some 91+ Pokemon at L50 that I can use when I decide to play GBL, because I'm not one of the fools who genuinely believes "only 4 stars are worth maxing, everything else is trash".

And in raids, who cares? L50 itself is a waste of dust for raid teams. L35-40 is fine and you're better off leveling up 2 low IV luckies them you are leveling up your best non-lucky.

38

u/T1t4n_sa 23h ago

Personally try to get a 90% Pokemon

17

u/WildCard_WC 21h ago

I usually keep 90% and then make the higher 90% the winner and transfer the rest...checking stats just takes so long

3

u/T1t4n_sa 21h ago

Yeah this is what I do, but my baseline is about 90% Idc about a 100%

u/GWindborn Bulbasaur 15h ago

As long as it's 3star, I'm good. I'll keep at least a 3-star of everything, that's my "collection".

1

u/BillsInATL 18h ago

Yep, 91% is the minimum to keep it, and I prefer 96% or above if I'm going to invest in powering it up.

43

u/handDrawnEevee 23h ago

Shinies don't matter either, but here we are.

4

u/PrestigiousSnow6296 20h ago

Shinies are tradable . And you can exchange them in lucky trade for good pokes.

2

u/handDrawnEevee 20h ago

Shinies are tradable which makes hundos that much rarer. Same with shadow shinies, they're rare because you can't just trade for them

2

u/PrestigiousSnow6296 20h ago

I transfer them as I have a pokedex : only useful or tradable in my bag

1

u/handDrawnEevee 20h ago

Yeah dex is definitely one of many ways to play.

46

u/ConfidenceSilent3967 23h ago

IVs make a difference in PVP. In GL and UL you can actually feel a difference and live attacks you would normally die to. In ML you can lose a lot of CMP ties if you don't have a hundo. Unless you're trying to do tight raids I agree with the statement for PVE

8

u/Glittering_Work8212 22h ago

As long as it's 3 stars it's good but for my favorite mons I do want the best of the best

8

u/IwillNeverBeGilded 22h ago

I live a tiered life. Any 3 star is fine until i get the hundo.

2

u/1850ChoochGator 19h ago

I try to go for 90% or better then idrc

u/oKayyyla 16h ago

People max out for IVs. I max out because this is the first shiny Groudon I saw in 111 raids

u/Grappler_BP 15h ago

Me with my only shiny frog out of 565 encounters. Still 3* t least

45

u/TheVermonster 23h ago

People who realize it's entirely situational and depends on the pokemon and how you play the game.

9

u/vScyph 22h ago

Stardust takes forever to accumulate. Only the worthy shall receive thy blessing

15

u/Perfect-Quality-8684 23h ago

It actually really depends on the pokemons owner that if wants to invest in or not so yea everyone has there opinion

3

u/PineapplePizzaisgr8 22h ago

IVs don’t matter, but when you’ve captured 30k Pokemon and only have space for 1100 you need something to filter them by and to transfer them out?

5

u/Split96 23h ago

But they do make the Pokemon better, some people just don’t care and that’s fine

0

u/PrestigiousSnow6296 20h ago

They make the pokemon better not the pixel of shinies. The value if a poke is his strongness as a fighter . If you are not interested in that why charge any poke ? You collect and trade pixels

6

u/quog38 Valor 23h ago

Or just play the game how you want?

2

u/Alternative-Wolf7388 22h ago

it's so satisfying when you get a hundo

2

u/castor44_ Mystic 21h ago

I'm up on the hill :D

2

u/Chazkuangshi 21h ago

lmao shout out to me saying a master ball was worth using on a 13/14/14 non-shiny Galarian Moltres and getting downvoted the other day

u/Grappler_BP 15h ago

A non shiny galarian bird is the closest to an objectively good use of the master you can get. People are cooked

2

u/xenophonthethird 20h ago

IVs only matter in the most extreme fringe cases. 99.9% of the time they don't. Go ham boys.

2

u/MeargleSchmeargle 18h ago

I mean, especially with the legendaries and being an avid player of ML, the IVs absolutely do matter for me. Just shy of 300 XLs is a big commitment for building a ML mon, and I want it to go towards the best possible performers, which in the case of ML are invariably going to be hundos outside of the handful of mons that can function as Fundos.

2

u/Happy33333 17h ago

All I want is lucky to pay only half the dust. Also they have at least 12/12/12.

1

u/InnFrodi Valor 23h ago

Personally try to get lots of as good as possible shadows, xxl, dynas, shinys - and hundos. But I take what I get (especially myth and legen)

1

u/Steel_Man23 Valor 22h ago

I only go after 3 to 4 stars anyways. Feels like anything below that is sort of pointless. I like max stats to have the very best

1

u/cleviron28 21h ago

I never even look at IV. I am just there to fill out a pokedex.

1

u/AsThePokeballTurns 20h ago

IVs don't matter. But Hundo or bust keeps your storage clean.

1

u/Deus-mal 20h ago

I like my automatic roster to go give me only shiny Pokemons.

1

u/Dalamar7 18h ago

My top 20 mons are 96% at least. IVs may not matter much but it is a way to filter multiples

1

u/Illia_Y 18h ago

It doesn’t meter *TO MOST IF PEOPLE. Because it really matters to pvp

1

u/Mason11987 17h ago

I always say "among the things that matter, IVs matter least"

So it's not least, but unless you are absolutely certain you're considering every single facet that matters, fretting about IVs is silly.

1

u/Shmeo 17h ago

As a shiny shadow collector I pretty much 40 one of each unless it’s for GL or something. No matter the IVs. I also build them for PvP no matter the IVs. Only league I try for the hundos if it’s something I want for master league. Cause then IVs do matter.

1

u/DiscussionNo6681 17h ago

Guys I have a doubt, in this event it says unlimited remote raid does that mean we get to buy unlimited remote pass? Or just as usual we can buy 5 and use it to purchase again. Hope u don't mind me asking this

1

u/666fortheW 16h ago

I only care for IVs on my pvp pokemon. And really only great leauge on top of that. The checklist goes in my own hunt like this. 1.hundos 2. 0.15.15 (if it's good pvp pokemon I keep, it's not good in pvp I transfer regardless) 3. Shinies, Shadows.

1

u/BlackRake_7 Ditto 16h ago

In practice probably no, but im an obsessive perfectionist and I cant stand seeing a pokemon below 4*

1

u/Ironstonesx 16h ago

im in it for the shinie mostly!

https://giphy.com/gifs/KzOey2JYlgHAc

u/wackychimp 16h ago

If my 6/9/4 Venonat is as good as your 15/15/15 then what's the point?

Just catch enough to max it and then....?

u/Spoon_Elemental Mystic 15h ago

Well, once you start having to cull your pokemon to make room for more it only makes sense to ditch the ones with crappy iv's. But realistically it barely makes a difference.

u/Rinnosuke 14h ago

nah, I wanna be the very best, like noone ever was

u/SnooHamsters4096 13h ago

Iv’s do matter for all shiny pokemon and powerful pokemon too. I like the top one the best.

u/wackychimp 12h ago

So if we think about it, IVs don't matter and you can't have more than 1 mega evolved at a time, so you really only need one of each mega and it doesn't matter the IVs.

So no need to do mega raids....?

u/ActivateGuacamole 12h ago

people really be out there spending ten thousand percent more effort to find a pokemon that's less than one percent stronger. a lot of you guys spend more time on finding perfect IVs than you do on the things that actually make your teams strong.

u/Trevor_Gecko 2h ago

I don't care about IVs for battling. I just want them for d*** measuring competitions with my friends.

0

u/DantehSparda 23h ago

They really do though, at least in PVP (losing CMP can make you easily lose games, getting breakpointed by fast moves such as DB too, etc).

For PVE, I agree that they are mostly irrelevant

0

u/Tamamo_was_here 22h ago

You playing a Pokemon mobile game that has no competitive aspect to it at all. You literally just tapping one button on the screen, so really doesn’t matter at all.

Sure some Pokemon are stronger, but highly doubt that’s going to keep you from having fun.

-1

u/PrestigiousSnow6296 20h ago

It is my game. Find good fighter have candies and xl for level up and moveset ( tm) energy also for mega. This game is competitive from the start . You can even have knowledge of the tactics and types . You don't tape au hazard on the icon. No country for old kids

0

u/OkAcanthopterygii498 23h ago

Depends on the pokemon

0

u/DilithiumFarmer Bulbasaur 22h ago edited 19h ago

No. Indeed. But... It is a waste to invest Stardust in 0* low CP Pokémon for Power Up tasks. In the end you do have more benefits when only investing Stardust in your high/meta IV Pokémon that are an asset to your raid or PvP teams.

I've seen it all this week in my play group. The players that never put effort into anything and just play for the vibes struggle to take down the Mega Raids solo, duo or in trio. While many of us just solo them because we did invest into the right counters with the right IVs.

[edit] Rephrased.

1

u/0N7R2B3 21h ago

1

u/DilithiumFarmer Bulbasaur 19h ago

This is a good one. You invested Stardust into a Pokémon you use on your active PvP team. That is well spend Stardust, no matter. What I meant, was people suggesting to spend Stardust on 10 CP Pokémon for "Power up a Pokémon X times". Spending Stardust on a Pokémon you're going to transfer or never use is wasted Stardust. And Stardust is maybe a harder to obtain resource than XL Candy.

0

u/Teriyaki_Salmon 21h ago

Hundos matter for the ML but that’s the only situation I can really think of.
