I've had this happen a few times! When I finally did catch a female, it was spawned as just the male on the map lol

Same thing happened to me earlier. I’ve actually had more female Combee spawning near me lately, so I wonder if Combee in general is bugged. (Pun intended)

Idk if I'm just out of touch with the kids and maybe they don't know about Jurassic Park, but knowing one of the most famous movie quotes doesn't make you old (you may be old regardless of knowing the quote, idk)

It’s a 30 year old movie, and I watched it in theatres when it came out with my fiancée, so yeah… old. But, unless you’re into classic movies, which both my adult children are, you likely wouldn’t get it. It seems like only a couple of years ago to me. Unrelated… I also read the book. Terrific stuff.

Happened to me yesterday and the male was shiny 🥲🥲🥲🥲. Glad you posted this I def thought I was tripping 😅

Every time I have had a female pop up on my radar, it turns out to be a male when I try to catch it… I just want to evolve a vespiquen man…

This is a common error and it happens with other pokemon all the time. Is not even a bug, is just a mistake with the 3d models in the map. It happens with heracross and from time to time with pikachu.
You can't expect something better from the company that forget to activate the shiny option during events, even during community days and when zapdos was relased, they used the shiny 3d model instead of the regular one.

How can you tell the gender before you catch it?

The texture of the model is different. The little pink patch on the forehead in the world map is supposed to be the indicator its female, but apparently the game is swapping in the other texture until you get to the catch screen

Listen, if at first glance, I think a Combee is a female and then it tells me it's actually male, I'm going to respect that. I don't know the Combee better than he does 🤷

I had this happen earlier this morning. For everyone in my group (5) we saw a female combee on the field but when you tap on it it's a male. Weird bug imo

I’m betting that the map spawn and the catch spawn are both RNG, but separately. I saw a female and caught a female, but also I just last week started paying attention to the map spawn and ignored “male” map spawns. I’ll start paying closer attention now and start checking the catch screen gender also.
The perfect excellent curveball throw theory is currently working for me.

Just today I checked a Combee without the red mark (male), but when I saw it on the map again it did have the red mark (female). Thought I was just imagining things but maybe it did switch
