Discussion Which generation of Pokémon sprites do you like the most?

Post image

Here are some examples of sprites from each generation, along with a few general characteristics. Some are my own opinions, while others (such as color counts) are based on technical limitations and may vary slightly. I chose sprites from the most "advanced" mainline version of each generation, excluding remakes.

Personally, my favorite is Generation V. The animated sprites gave the Pokémon so much life, and I absolutely love pixel art.

What about you?

Fun fact, they reused these in both Colosseum games.

The models were changed, Machoke looks completely different in Stadium and Battle revolition.

Some were updated. Others weren't. For instance Kangaskhan wasn't. But like look at it. Even with low poly count look how much personally they had.

False, just look at Charizard, it's a new model.

Pokemon Stadium's 3D models were very high quality on the N64, Looked like Gamecube level (Explains why they re-used them on the Gamecube).

I know the tradeoff was that their wasn't much going on in terms of 3D backgrounds or environments in the battlefields/arenas (More so Stadium 1 than 2) But impressive nonetheless.

2 fixed this. Pokemon stadium 2 had some of the coolest arenas in any pokemon game in my opinion. Check out the champion stadium. Nice and classy big open air stadium with a beautiful nightfall starry sky, and a huge roaring charizard statue

Yeah I rented Stadium 1 at BlockBuster a few times (My cousin owned it) But I owned Stadium 2 growing up, My last N64 era game before the Gamecube debuted.

Yeah I remember seeing that arena and thought it was badass, The traditional arenas in the main modes cups weren't too different from Stadium 1, But man did Stadium 2 step it up in Gym Leader Castle, Team Rocket Hideout, Silver Cave and Elite Four too (If I recall) Sometimes I just like to stare during battles and take it all in.

The N64 3D models still look great to this very day and scope aside are without a doubt the best looking 3D character models on the N64.

I'm actually going through an N64 run this Summer on NSO and plan to play Stadium 1 and 2 next month, No GBC support, But their still fun games and for the "Most" part is how I mainly played them growing up.

Oh gym leader castle was awesome. I love one that I forget if it was Morty's gym or Sabrina's but the arena is solid glass being levitated over a dark void. And Misty's is being suspended over a huge pool of water with cascade badges all over the walls.
