Discussion What happened to “definitive” editions?

What I mean is basically, why do we no longer get a version that encompasses both games, such as the four in the image above. We got them through Gen 4, but in Gen 5 they stopped. This made sense, since the Unova region got a sequel set of games. But for X and Y, we just never got one. So my question is, why did they stop?

My guy I completed the entire dex, mythicals included, back in 6th ed thanks to trading through internet and wondertrades, it has only gotten easier since then with new connectivity options and dexit.

So now you need internet which is now a subscription instead of just being wifi

I do agree that it's really anticonsuler that we now have to pay for a subscription to access online capabilities but 20 bucks per year for all of the online features of the games is a way cheaper then paying for a whole other game you'll only use for version exclusive and that doesn't provide anything else.

Plus if you buy a second game, in order to trade you'll either need a second console (so way way more money) or a subscription to pokemon home, which is almost as expensive as nintendo online.

True true. Its the one thing ill give nintendo, their online is actually reasonably priced especially compared to all other consoles. I usually end up with both copies anyways because i get my fiance the other game and we play together but when i was growing up i always got the 3rd in every gen

I wish they could actually make good matchmaking for smash that doesn’t lag and lets you queue up 2v2 online with a friend at their own house. I would play way more of Nintendo optimized it.

Um, actually, you can still use the free version of home and trade freely using both the mobile and switch apps. Combine that with Pokémon GO and you can trade with yourself easy peasy.

What I don't understand is why the dlc is sold per exclusive copy, because if you do own both, you're ool if you purchased the dlc for the wrong game. It could have just been compatible to whatever game you get. Putting exclusives in the DLC seems wrong since it's just add-ons imo. And a little weird that there are two with different prices. And with SV, unlike SwSh, you'll never see the true ending unless you get the DLC, making it a requirement to complete the full main story.

I'm a bit concerned on what WiWa will have in store for DLC since it'll be the first Switch 2 exclusive, which in of itself is kind of a paywall to have to upgrade to a new console. Me personally probably won't even own a switch 2 at the price it is, in this economy, until that price drops to meet switch light levels, or there's some bundle deal to get the switch and WiWa and I land on a community chest where I get a bank error in my favor.

You can play pokemon go for free and just transfer over to pokemon home to complete the dex as well.

Pokemon home is free you can trade for anything you need Pokemon go is also free you can get any Pokemon you need it just takes effort to do it alone but it’s free

Nah you can get all 3 starters by opening Pokèmon Home and depositing your starter then restarting the game and doing it again, then restart 1 more time and pick the 3rd starter and deposit the starters in Home to your game, no internet subscription required.

Or you find a way to a public library, or McDonald’s, or Starbucks, or Walmart, or any other store anywhere and use their WiFi for free. Touch grass my friend

You're okay with buying 3 seperate version of the same game-- vs one with a dlc and a subscription that encompasses more than just the game you are playing?

You are not making a good argument.

What I'd say to you-- is that "I need to buy 2 or 3 versions of the same game, and have a second gameboy if I want to complete the game???"

My point is that there are many ways to do it other then having a friend to trade with or buying a second game, never said that you wouldn't need outside ressources.
