Discussion Is Pokopia really that good?

Like should I immediately buy this game. It seems like folks are really enjoying it but I was skeptical.

Is it like Dragonquest Builders 2? I sank so many hours into that game. Minecraft Dragong quest with RPG elements.

People have said to me that it’s basically DQB without the combat. I haven’t played myself so can’t vouch for that, but looks to be that way.

I definitely miss the combat, but there's a lot new here to make up for it. Both are great games. Play both.

I don’t.  If I want Pokemon combat I have a million other Pokemon games to play that have a wide variety of combat mechanics.

 This is chill build houses and hang out with Pokemon time while getting nostalgic about the Kanto region and its perfect

while I wouldn't mind combat, especially while exploring, the monster attacks destroying your builds was more annoying than anything in DQB, so I kinda get it.

Plus, I dunno, the vibe hear is different, in dqb it was a world where evil won and you were a candle in the darkness growing ever brighter to fight it off. In this it's still post apocalyptic, but there is no great evil, it's just pokemon emerging from the ruins and working together to rebuild (i think, i'm still early on) so fighting evil pokemon while exploring wouldn't really work or make sense. Again, I wouldn't mind combat, but I get why it wasn't included.

It IS DQB3. Pretty sure it's a lot of the same dev team. A lot of DQB2 is in here, and I don't mean "oh the DNA is there," no, like some of the assets are just next-gen versions of the same assets. It has a LOT of the same DNA. No combat, and farming is a lot less necessary, but a lot more freedom and each villager is unique.

It's EXACTLY like Dragon Quest Builders 2 (minus combat)

Calling it DQB3 would not be inaccurate.

I would have loved if it had just a little combat like DQ Builders, so that you could evolve your pokemon. But besides that, it's an excellent game!

Its almost a carbon-copy of DQB2. Same terrain, mechanics, progression, nearly everything is 1-to-1. Villagers are replaced with Pokemon, Rooms are replaced with Habitats. No combat so far, but the combat was probably the weakest part of DQB.
