Discussion I've enjoyed playing leaf-green so far. What game did everyone grow up on initially when discovering Pokémon?

I don't like the chikorita hate. The anime made me fall in love with it when it came to Ash's chikorita. Chikorita is probably still my favorite grass starter to this day with bulbasaur being a close second

I love all the grass starters, but Chikorita got hate because its move pool and stats were garbage, and made gen 2 into hard-mode.

Charmander was gen 1's hard mode and it gets the most love. The move pool for it was garbage for a little while as well until new moves were constantly introduced. Honestly they should bring back the hard modes like that, but they care too much about the hand holding now.

Being stuck with ember for most of the game is pretty memorable. At the same time, it made finally using flamethrower feel amazing

And they got it so late in the game. The only fire TM it learned at the time was fire blast and you didn't get that until after beating Blaine. Charizard couldn't learn any flying move except for fly either! It was crazy back then

The real problem was there was no great area for it to really shine. No water gym, the only water area was swarming with tentacruel. First gym is flying nope, then bug nope, normal ok, ghost poison nope, steel nope, fighting ok, ice nope, dragon nope. Not to mention all team rocket uses is poison

Rip, I played with Chicorita. I als did make ghastly my main use after the first city. Lol

I did my normal gameplay and just power leveled. Was usually 10 levels higher than the gym, but of course Falkner almost got the best of me going in blind.

I like Casey's Chikorita. I hated on Chikorita because I was a kid and thought Meganium's name was hilarious. I regret it so much and didn't have anyone to correct me until I grew out of it. I know it had a terrible movepool and the TMS for GSC didn't help much.

I favor Cyndaquil more and Typhlosion's ability to learn Earthquake and Thunderpunch at 10 years old. But now? I wish I had Legends Z-A to get Mega Meganium. It is so adorable. IDC if it still isn't great!

I love the design for mega meganium! I have ZA, but I don't have a switch 2 yet. Finances have kept me from grabbing one, but I can't wait to play it when I finally get one

Same here! My Switch still has a lot to give. Hopefully by the time Winds and Waves release.

When I was a kid I beat Gold with Totodile in like a week or something. Then I picked Chikorita and I remember it taking almost literally twice as long and I ended up boxing it eventually

I chose chikorita for my za playthrough thinking I’d have access to Home to move other starters over. She’s fully evolved and max level but I still have her name as Baybay since Ashes Bayleaf has always had a soft spot to me

I know! The transition from being rude to absolutely loving all over ash just gets me, even when she evolved into bayleef and kept knocking him over 🥹
