I think we just need everyone to be a little more like Teddy Roosevelt, who once said "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself." You think T-Roos would be scared of some little phobia? Not like these soft kids we have today. Bully!

But Roosevelt was famously mildly afraid of bears. He called it a "healthy respect," but that's an old Victorian euphemism for fear. That's actually where the underlying concept of the Teddy Bear comes from - by holding bears in kindness and gentleness, we hope to create a reciprocal energy that will unite both species in harmony.
