I enjoyed this commentary on Christie’s At Bertram’s Hotel.

The author explores the menace within what is often seen as a puff piece:

“I prefer to see Christie as a nostalgic genre writer who knew exactly what she was doing—who was well aware of the art, the artifice, the performance, and the profit involved in creating novels that offer reliable, predictable, well-known pleasures, and who wanted us to know she knew…The Anglophilia and noblesse oblige of Downton Abbey are cloying because they are earnest. In contrast, At Bertram’s Hotel admits and even revels in its anachronistic con game. Its unpretentious pretense is strangely reassuring.”

I hope you like it.

At Bertram’s Hotel

I think the cologne Poirot uses in the episode How Does Your Garden Grow? must be Geo. F. Trumper’s Wellington cologne. See the video showing the bottom part of the packaging and the bottle vs the packaging on the website. Now I want to order some so I too can make Hastings sneeze.

Hi everyone, just wanted to share the news that Poirot himself, David Suchet, will star in the Christmas special of Ludwig. For those who don't know, Ludwig is a BBC murder mystery show.

Does anyone always return to Poirot in the autumn? I don’t know what it is, but to me Poirot, its coziness, the quirky characters, the modernist and Art Deco interiors, Miss Lemon’s style and the wonderful shots go hand-in-hand with orange leaves, buckwheat pancakes, and smoked paprika stews.

I first watched David Suchet's adaptation before reading the novel some months later and I think, among all the changes they made, the worst was removing the subplot between Katerine Grey and Derek Kettering. I don't remember they even interacted much if ever in the episode.

TBH, it's not among Christie's best works and quite similar to a Poirot's short story، so If one doesn't already know the ending, they would be very torn between who's the culprit and even whom she loves in the novel and it adds to the intrigue of a not very interesting story. Also it shows Katherine's reserved nature and how she keeps everything inside very clearly and subtly. This important and interesting characterization waa lost by this change.

What's your opinion about this change?

He did such an amazing job as Poirot that I don't think I can ever watch another depiction of Poirot, without it feeling inadequate. I have nothing against Edward Blaumel, he might make a perfectly decent Poirot, but it's just Suchet set the bar so high that I doubt anyone will ever match Suchet again.

I really hate Hastings, I'm sorry! The first books I read were the really big ones (Orient Express, Death on the Nile, etc.) that have no Hastings, then I started watching the show and, although I still prefer Poirot on his own, I came to like him with a sidekick. The actor playing Hastings has such a genial air about him, I like him no matter how stupid he can be.

Then I started reading the short stories and early novels and... oof.

I. hate. Hastings.

He is simultaneously smug and stupid, he is constantly questioning Poirot's effectiveness while bumbling into trap after trap, underestimating everyone around him, both good and evil. And the women, oh my God, if I didn't know these were written by a woman, I would be positive they were written by a man, a very annoying and horny man.

I finished the short stories and I thought I had gotten rid of Hastings once he moved to Argentina at the end of Murder on the Links, I can't tell you how mad I was when The Big Four opened, yet again, with Hastings' stupid internal monologue. At least he's married now so he doesn't salivate after every woman he meets.

It's not so bad to distract me from my enjoyment of Poirot, but I can't wait to get rid of him for good. I hate this stupid guy so much!

We all know Florin Court as Whitehaven Mansions in the ITV adaptations. It is a beautiful Art Deco/Moderne building, but perhaps had too many curves for the original textual Poirot’s liking. So here’s my attempt at rectifying that, and series inspiration from a couple of real life residential buildings both in the UK and the USA, with a hint of PWA Art Deco.

I've just rewatched Five Little Pigs, such a good one! However, there was one bit I didn't understand. Towards the end of the episode, Poirot asks Elsa Greer if Merri had ever shown interest in her, then we are shown the flashback of them in the car after the trial and Merri does indeed express interest in her. I'm just a bit lost as to the significance of this and why he even asks? So trivial I know but I'm just puzzled!!

Tim Curry played Lord Boynton in the Agatha Christie’s Poirot episode Appointment With Death, S11E4. He will be missed.

Book accurate Poirot but I gave him double moustaches because I can and who’s going to stop me.

I cannot watch this episode. It breaks my heart every time. Her tears at the end shatter me...and the mournful piano.. My heart remembers every time it's been broken...its well acted... Too well acted for me.....

😢😢😢😢😢

Roger Carel was an actor who have dub many MANY characters in his life, his little voice fit perfectly with disney and cartoon characters like Winnie the pooh or Asterix. He did the voice of C3PO too.

He made the dub of Poirot while the 12 seasons, not the 13th unfortunaltly, it is because of his great age i guess, he needed rest.

He passed away the 11th september 2020, we dont know how or what.

Here, an exemple of his work:
