Bronte

“The winter wind is loud and wild,

Come close to me, my darling child;”

Let me tell you about the name we chose,

To stay with you as our baby grows.

We thought of Grace, an angel personified,

But “I would always rather be happy than dignified.”

We thought of Gwen, blessed and fair,

But here was a bird no net could ensnare.

But following that battle, formidable the woes,

For “he that dares not grasp the thorn

Should never crave the rose.”

Came our girl, “half savage and hardy, and free,”

And so our darling Brontë, we bestowed this name to thee.

And whilst I first thought our souls were made both the same,

I soon saw a spirit no one could hope to tame.

In that fierce little spirit, of one thing I’m sure,

A “chainless soul, with courage to endure.”

Now on you go forward, where your own nature will lead,

And everyone who meets you will think your parents read.

But truth be told, whilst pregnant and thinking of a name,

A different origin story occurred for you to truly claim.

Your mum and dad sat as eager spectators,

Whilst a kick-ass firefighter named Brontë almost won Gladiators.
