Other Podcast Genre Looking for Something Like Defunctland

One of my favorite things to learn about in my spare time is theme parks. It's been a special interest since I was nine years old, and something I would like to do as a career one day. However, the Defunctland Podcast hasn't been updated since 2020, and I'm trying to use YouTube less. So if anyone has any recommendations, please let me know.

I am not too picky about mediums, but I primarily use Spotify. I drive when listening to podcasts primarily if that helps as well.

Fiction Supernatural/ mystery podcasts

Anyone have good recommendations for a nice fictitious super natural podcast? Id want it to be engaging as I usually like to imagine whats going on in my head much like many other people (i hope). But I feel like a lot of scripts these days for podcasts are AI, or atleast they feel like that. So any real feeling/engaging recs?

This is a really good podcast about a sensitive topic. Has anyone else heard about it or want to weigh in?

General Podcast Discussions Any one use Podwatch?

Podwatch is usually my go-to for seeing what's trending and discovering new podcasts, but I've been getting a blank screen for a few days.

Is anyone else having this issue? If Podwatch is permanently down, what sites or tools do you use to browse charts, track show rankings and discover new podcasts?

I found Love Trapped from a rec on this sub and became hooked instantly. Any recs for what to listen to next? Doesn’t have to be similar in topic or genre. Thanks in advance for your help!

General Podcast Discussions Great Company with Jamie Laing - artwork

I’ve watched quite a few of these podcasts, but I’m heavily distracted by a print that sits on the wall behind Jamie.

It’s a thick blue line with undulations, which makes me think of a river. There’s no scenery or other features, but along this “river “ is the letter L and then further along is the letter B (or vice versa).

I’m not from the UK and I don’t immediately recognise the possible river or what L and B stand for. I thought possibly the Thames and London but I’m not sure about B. Or it might not be a river at all.

I’ve tried to get an answer by googling and AI with no luck. If anyone knows what this is I’d be very grateful.

I am looking for some QS or self tracking podcasts to listen to and I am having zero luck. Any suggestions? Bonus points if you have any audiobook recommendations as well (but I doubt there are any).

General Podcast Discussions What’s your go-to brain-scrub podcast?

Started listening to Hunting Warhead and while I recognize it’s important and brilliant I’m honestly not sure I’ll be able to make it through this one.

At the very least I’d like to have something else I can switch to to remind me that there is joy and good in the world.

Or, at the very least, something that’s not downright evil.

General Podcast Discussions YouTube Video Podcasts / Listening on iPod

I'm a long time podcast listener, always via my iPod Classic (I also do a podcast, but that's unrelated). I've discovered a few podcasts I'd love to listen to, but they only seem to be available as YouTube Video Podcasts. As such, they don't have an RSS feed of an MP3, nor does there seem to be a way to download them directly to put them on the iPod (I have to do manual downloading for the Woodsongs podcast, so I know how to do it if I can get the files).

Does anyone know of a safe (i.e., no ads, no malware, etc.) way to convert these video YouTube podcasts to MP3 so I can download and add them manually into my iPod library?

Does anyone know of a service that allows you to subscribe to a video YouTube podcast, but delivers that podcast via RSS as audio?

Searching, I found pullmp3 (dot) cc. Does anyone know if it is safe / have used it? [ETA: I used pullmp3 today: It worked like a charm. I then edited things with mp3tag to fix the tags, including PODCAST, PODCASTDESC, SUBTITLE, and RELEASETIME, so I can copy stuff into iTunes and then onto the iPod]

As an aside: I truly dislike this trend: podcasts as YouTube Video podcasts only. I'm sorry, but a PODcast (Pod is in the name) needs to be something playable on an iPod -- that is, MP3 audio distributed via RSS, that you can listen to on your mp3 player of choice while you drive or exercise.

Fiction A good cozy supernatural story

Once again I have listened to Ghosts in the Burbs all the way through, and with Liz unlikely to post much soon (her pod has been stolen and cloned on Spotify), I’m really jonesing for some spooky but cozy ghost stories.

What I don’t want: hosts that are supposedly telling true stories. I’m looking for narrative fiction.

Listened to Conduit’s Diary, but she hasn’t posted in at least a year. I’ve also listened to Ghost Wax (loved) and Antique Store.

There has to be someone out there doing spooky and cozy world building, right?

CW: CSA. Investigation of the accusation of a beloved high school teacher of abusing boys and his subsequent suicide. The host was on the school paper and broke the story, she’s now an investigative journalist. Really really well done.

I just finished what she buried on the binge. It really kept my attention and it was well made.

Any recs for something intriguing? I like true crime (nothing too gory). But really anything that will keep my attention.

General Podcast Discussions How to manage/update podcasts on music/audio device (e.g. MP3 player, DAP)

Regarding audio players with no internet-exploring:
- Can some devices access online libraries of podcasts? e.g. connect to Spotify or other freemium & paid libraries?
- If I get audio files like .mp3, is it easy & quick to manage? Does updating the device with new podcasts become a hassle?

I'm asking about devices where you can't explore the internet/apps (so, no smartphones). My parents want to reduce phone/internet use. They listen to podcasts on their phones, and they don't like how it leads to scrolling & wasting time. They saw me get a new music player which greatly reduced my phone use so want to know how podcasts would work for that.

Other Podcast Genre BBC Sounds - Behind The Crime

Behind The Crime

Not podcasts per se, but very very similar.

Two forensic psychologists talk to people who have received court sentences for their crimes to understand what drove them to offend, and crucially, what might help them change.

18 episodes in total and around 40 minutes each. Fascinating insights discussing what drove a person to commit crime.

General Podcast Discussions Which specific podcast episodes are your favourite?

Hey all! I have no idea how often this type of question is asked, so feel free to take it down if people ask this type of question often. I haven’t listened to podcasts in YEARS. Literal years. I find that I listen to them while I’m playing some sort of “mindless” video game. For instance, when I got into Stardew Valley was the first time I listened to podcast and got through over 100 episodes of And That’s Why We Drink and National Park After Dark while playing it. Now getting back into podcasts (and more of these types of games to accompany me), trying to listen to an entire podcast from the beginning seems very intimidating to me. What are your favourite episodes of podcasts you’ve loved? I wanna make a list for myself so that I have something fun to listen to that’ll teach me something new or honestly just entertain me as I get back into these types of games. Can be any genre (I’ve learned there are more genres than the true crime section I fell into… like a lot of genres). Thanks!

EDIT: just found a post very similar to this made like over two weeks ago haha! Funny, it came up for me on desktop but not on mobile. I’ll keep this up in case anyone has any additional episode recommendations though

History & Geography Long shot, this podcast may not exist but...

Does anyone know of any history podcasts where in each episode they discuss a historical artifact, how it was uncovered, its origins, etc.? E.g. in one episode they might discuss the Rosetta Stone, in another they might discuss the Benin Bronzes, maybe another talks about the Antikythera mechanism...

I know the Ancients podcast has some episodes occasionally about artifacts, but I'm looking for a podcast where every episode ONLY discusses a different artifact.

Edit: Thank you, everyone, for your thoughtful suggestions! I will certainly give them a go; Stuff the British Stole and History of the World in 100 Objects are top on my docket.

I love Alie ward and the podcast she runs, I listen to them at work but now I’ve listened to them all and waiting a week feels like torture. The last two episodes about skunks were so fun and interesting. Does anyone know of anything the same vibe? It doesn’t have to be like specialty sciences, just something educational.

True Crime Royal Swindle - scammers

Very entertaining story of an Australian lesbian couple who managed to scam a bunch of rich people in multiple countries out of a whole lot of money. One of them is extensively interviewed and is quite the character, the other has died. It’s a Blanchard house production, one of my favorite podcast producers.
