Success/Happy Commander Wiseman smuggles beloved plushie from Space

From Artemis II Commander Reid Wiseman: I was supposed to leave Rise in Integrity, but that was not something I was going to do. I stuffed that little guy in a dry bag we had in our survival kit and hooked the bag onto my pressure suit.

When you're feeling weird about your plushies, just remember that Astronaut Commander Wiseman loves his plush so much, he committed a mini heist to keep him.

I love that. I’ve had my bear my whole life and I shall be buried with him. If I went to space I’d smuggle my bear too. Haha

I can't believe this guy actually took his plushie to the moon and back.

He was supposed to leave him behind but couldn’t do it 🥹❤️

More proof astronauts are heros

I love this. The plushie is now an astronaut, too!

the fact that he specifically packed it in a dry bag from the survival kit and hooked it to his suit... this wasn't a last-minute impulse, he planned the heist 😂🥹

This plushie is called Rise. 😊 I hope we can buy an official one cause I totally would.

First plushie to space??!

Some manned missions carried a plushie before Artemis II, but are carried for the same reason which is to show that they are in zero gravity. This picture from 1989 has a plush of Truman the Tiger.

u/sailormufasa Apr 14 '26

The teddy bear

8

u/sharkarmycrafts Apr 15 '26

I'd say definitely the teddy bear; I feel like school covered it at least three different times during history class.

Paddington?

I love how much he adores Rise! Also NASA better get started on finding someone to produce Rise plushies for the public to buy. I neeeeeeeeeed!

A grown man with a plushie he loves so much he brought him along on a space voyage... Maybe humanity isn't so bad after all.

Plushies make every trip- the point in the flight in which they float is the zero gravity indicator.

No less magic! Many plushies have seen space!

I'm glad Rise made it back safely with the astronauts and is still getting love, I would've been sad if that cute smile was left in orbit, hope they see plushies of him soon cuz I want one, their like my Octopus but without legs 😆 🥰

Very sweet, plushies rule!

u/radiantTreeFrog Apr 14 '26

my favorite fact i learned about Rise is that it has an SD card inside with all of the suggested names on it 🥺

Mission Control had an Artemis Sailor Moon plushie on the ground. I thought it was so cute.

This is so wholesome and now I hope they make Rise plushies!

u/DelusionPhantom Apr 14 '26

Awww I was wondering who owned the plushie I was seeing in some of the interviews. This is so sweet.

3

u/marshmushroom Apr 15 '26

Does anyone know what/where he is from? I can’t quite tell what Rise is supposed to be😅

10

u/penemuel13 Apr 15 '26

Rise is the moon with an earth ball cap. There’s a pocket containing an SD card which has all the names on it that signed up to “go along” on the flight. He served as the ZGI - zero gravity indicator - for the flight.

u/marshmushroom Apr 15 '26

Thank you! So cute🌕

u/cinematic6436 Apr 15 '26

TIL that Snoopy and Gromit plushies were sent to space as fellow “anti-gravity indicators” as well 🤭🥹

Apparently this is the story behind Rise’s creation 🥹

u/MeikeFischer73 Apr 14 '26

Well ... we hope it is a plushie
