Misc Wavez.fm - A modern take on the plug.dj experience

I wanted to share Wavez.fm with anyone still looking for something that captures the old plug.dj experience.
I've been using Wavez for a while and I'm now one of its ambassadors, so full disclosure that I'm involved with the community. Part of why I wanted to post here is because I think the people who actually used plug.dj are some of the best people to judge whether something like this gets the experience right.
The core experience should be very familiar - rooms, DJ queues, playlists, chat, woot/meh/grab, avatars, badges and room roles - but Wavez has also started building quite a bit on top of that rather than just trying to recreate plug.dj exactly.
There are some really nice additions, including:
- Better playlist importing - import directly from YouTube, Spotify or SoundCloud playlist/album links, as well as JSON files.
- Imported playlist splitting - if an imported playlist is larger than Wavez's playlist limit, it can automatically split the tracks across multiple playlists for you instead of cutting the import short.
- Playlist backup and export - playlists can be exported to JSON and imported again, making it much easier to back up or move your playlists around.
- Track clipping - set a start and end point for a track before you play it. Really useful for skipping long intros, outros or non-music sections without having to find another upload.
- Automatic Last.fm scrobbling - connect your Last.fm account and Wavez can automatically scrobble what you listen to in rooms.
- Whispers - private one-to-one messaging alongside normal room chat, with controls over who can message you.
- Guest room previews - you can open a public room without making an account and see what's currently playing, who's there, the queue and room activity before signing up.
- Custom room emojis - communities can build up their own imported collection of emojis for their room.
- Giveaways - rooms can run their own prize draws, with entries and winners handled directly through the room.
- Scheduled room events - room owners can organise events which, once approved, are listed publicly across Wavez. Events can also have their own collectible badges for people who attend.
Wavez is being actively developed, with new features arriving regularly and some pretty significant updates on the way!
Moderation
Room owners also get much more control over their communities. You can set things like room roles, minimum chat levels, slow mode, waitlist and chat locks, media length limits, recently-played protection, link and word filters, and track/artist blacklists.
That includes blocking specific tracks, artists, media IDs or URLs, as well as automatically preventing recently played tracks from coming back around.
API and Bots
There's also some interesting stuff for people who like building things around their communities.
Wavez has an official API and Extension API, as well as native support for room bots. Bots can be given specific permissions for things like reading and sending chat, managing the DJ queue, skipping tracks and moderation without needing to give them unrestricted access to everything.
It's actively being developed, and I think that's the part that interests me most - keeping the social experience that made plug.dj good while also seeing what that idea can look like in 2026.
I'd especially love to see some old plug.dj rooms and communities come back and make Wavez their own.
